POS MAYOR IS WARNED,DO NOT TARNISH THE NAME OF SANITATION WORKERS…

President of the amalgamated workers union says, he will not sit by and allow the Port of Spain mayor to tarnish the names of his members.

Michael Prentice says, mayor Chinua Alleyne is making statements, which he believes he cannot back up.

The mayor and the union have been at loggerheads, over plans for the transport section of the corporation.

Speaking with Newscentre five this morning, Mr. Prentice said, the mayor would be made to account.

Mr. Prentice said, mayor Alleyene’s behavior goes against the good nature of the council.

He is also calling on the Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley to intervene in this situation, involving the council and its workers.

20 THOUSAND FOR ANY LEADS IN THE KILLING OF PC HARRINARINE

The Police Social and Welfare Association vows to get the killers of, PC Ravindra Harrinarine.

However, acting president of the association, Assistant Superintendent Ismael Pitt finds it strange, that no other body is adding to the reward offered for information.

PC Harrinarine, who was recently assigned to the prime minister’s security detail, was gunned down while in the company of a woman on Bassie Street Spring Village Valsayn, on Wednesday night.

The police association has put 20 thousand dollars on the table for any leads. 

On the night of the incident, reports say two men alighted a vehicle and opened fire.

Officer Harrinarine is said, to have responded using his licensed gun.

He was hit and died at the scene.

Mr. Pitt makes it clear police officers are part of the society and as such, are affected by crime even as they are charged with the task of managing it.

He assures the perpetrators of this crime that their days are numbered.

Speaking with Newscentre five earlier today assistant superintendent Pitt, described PC Harrinrine as a dedicated and professional officer who will be missed.

He said, the TTPS is poorer for having lost PC Harrinarine.   

The Police Commissioner, Erla Harewood-Christopher, has vowed to bring the officers’ killers to justice.

Officer Harrinarine was from Santa Cruz.

PIZZA BOYS, ST. ANNS ROBBED $10,000.

More than ten thousand dollar robbery at the St. Anns branch of Pizza Boys.

Two bandits are said to have staged the robbery on Tuesday evening, at around ten o’clock.

Reports from the police say, the 24-year-old manager was at the St. Anns main road outlet, when the two men walked in.

One carried a gun, and demanded that the manager hand over the money in the cash register.

A total of 10 thousand 695 dollars ($10,695) was said, to be in the till.

The bandits also took three Samsung smart phones, before leaving the establishment.

COVID 19 PROTOCOLS IN TOBAGO SCHOOLS…

Covid 19 protocols are back in Tobago schools.

Health Secretary Dr. Faith B. Yisrael says, the return is the result of increases in influenza cases and respiratory ailments, including covid 19.

A memorandum was sent, via school supervisor three to principals

She said, the division is being cautious in schools across the island.

THE NATIONAL INSURANCE BOARD TELLS CUSTOMERS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION IS SECURE.

An assurance to customers of the National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago, that their personal information is secure.

Via a statement the NIBTT says, on December 26th, 2023, it experienced an attack upon its I.T. environment.

It says, this attack was detected while in progress and quick action disrupted it, before the threat actor was able to complete the task.

The statement says, forensic analysis by its cyber security specialists indicates that, at this time, there is no evidence of data exfiltration, and no expected risk to confidential or personal information held by the NIBTT.

The NIBTT says, it will continue to work with its cyber security partners, to improve the security and resiliency of its systems to strengthen against, future potential incidents.

A POLICE OFFICER LOSES HIS LIFE TO GUN CRIME …

A police constable attached to the traffic and highway patrol branch, is shot and killed.

Police reports say, the incident happened just before 10 o’clock last night at Bassie Street in Spring Village, Valsayn.

The dead officer has been identified as, PC Harrynarine.

According to reports, PC Harrynarine was seated in his red Subaru automobile with a female companion, when two men approached and began shooting.

The woman reportedly got out, and entered another car.

In cctv footage, the police officer can be seen stepping out of the vehicle and shooting at his assailants.

There was an exchange of gunfire.

After the officer was killed, the assailants took his gun and fled.

This homicide pushes the country’s murder count to, 30 so far this year.

RETIRED POLICE OFFICER JOHNNY ABRAHAM UNDER FIRE…

Under fire for some of his utterances made at a political meeting, retired police officer, Johnny Abraham responds.

He denies targeting police commissioner, Erla Harewood-Christopher by his criticisms, and his claim that the police service is leaderless.

Mr. Abraham was speaking at the opposition leader’s anti crime town meeting on Monday night, when he said; the crime situation is out of control.

Many are of the opinion Mr. Abraham was disrespectful to the commissioner.

On the morning show on i95.5fm today, Mr. Abraham said, all is not lost and the crime scourge can be turned around.

Mister Abraham also dismissed the view that he was unkind to police officers, who pursued studies while in the service.

TWO TEENS AMONG TRIO MURDERED IN MORVANT…

Two teenagers are among the victims of a triple murder in Morvant.

Police have named the victims as 27 year old Shakeem Dennis,  Jermell Williams and Isreal Mc Claren, both 19 years of age . 

Supt. Ramsook attached to the Port of Spain division, gave us an account of how the overnight attack happened.   

Meanwhile, Raheem Richards is gunned down in La Romain.

According to police, 19-year-old Mr. Richards and another man were playing cards on Pemberton Street, when they were attacked.

Police say, the assailant crawled up a drain, got into close proximity of the men and opened fire.

Mr. Richards was killed while the other man was rushed to hospital.

The attack reportedly occurred at around 11:30 pm.

Homicide investigators are probing the matter.

STUDENT TEST POSITIVE FOR TB AT A PORT OF SPAIN SCHOOL …

A confirmed case of tuberculosis, at the Tranquility Government Secondary School in Port of Spain.

The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association confirms, a student-tested positive.

President of TTUTA Martin Lum Kin says, a sibling of the positive case also attends a primary school in the Port of Spain district, has since been quarantined.

However, Mr. Lum Kin believes not enough has been done to protect students and teachers.

He is very concerned.

He is calling on the ministries of health and education to do better.

Mr. Lum is also concerned about the rise in covid 19 cases.

He says, while he has no information on cases at schools, he wants all covid protocols to be re-established, at all schools across the country.

Last week, health minister Terrence Deyalsingh, told of new covid related hospitalizations and deaths.

On Friday three (3) students of the ASJA Girls College in Tunapuna tested positive for covid 19

FIVE NEW COVID-19 DEATHS…

Trinidad and Tobago records, five new covid-19 deaths.

These are confirmed by Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh, this comes months after the last such fatalities were recorded.

Minister Deyalsingh, gave an update at a media conference yesterday.

He said, the elderly population continues to be amongst the most vulnerable to the disease.

The Health Minister appealed to families of such persons, to take the necessary precautions.

Minister Deyalsingh said, there has also been a small uptick in covid cases, since the beginning of January.

With nine persons hospitalized for the virus.
