THE WRECKER RETURNS TO THE CAPITAL…

Motorists seeking a parking space in the capital are warned, of the resumption of towing activities in the city.

A release from the Port of Spain city corporation, issued under the hand of acting Chief Executive Officer Victoria C. Allum, says towing activities will resume in the capital city of Port-of-Spain from Wednesday May 29th, 2024.

It says, this has become necessary to regulate illegal and indiscriminate parking across the city, particularly in residential areas and along the city’s main roadways.

Motorists are advised to observe and obey all road markings, traffic signs and regulations.

The Port of Spain City Corporation also advises parking illegally at street corners, pedestrian crossings, fire hydrants, bus stops, taxi stands and gateways will result in vehicles being towed.

It says, towed vehicles can be retrieved from the impound lot, located on Dock Road off Wrightson Road, after payment of the prescribed fee of $500tt.

The corporation says, an additional fee of $200tt is chargeable for each day, or part thereof during which the vehicle is kept in custody.

TOBAGO BUISINESS COMMUNITY BATS FOR NEW MARRIOT HOTEL ON THE ISLAND….

The business community in Tobago gives thumbs up to a proposal to establish, a Marriott hotel on the island.

The Tobago chamber says, a local investor is the one bringing the Marriott to the sister isle.

Vice chairman of the Tobago chamber, Demi John Cruickshank stresses, Tobago is in need of this project to move the economy.

Mr. Cruickshank believes, the ripple effect of the Marriott coming to Tobago will be a positive one.

The vice chairman further notes that this is the break, Tobago has been waiting for.

He pleads with all concerned to get on board with this project.

Mr. Cruickshank admits crime is a concern, but Tobagonians should not give in and push forward to the realization of this hotel.

He was speaking at a media briefing yesterday.

BUSINESSWOMAN ANISHA HOSEIN SINGH IS FREED…

Anisha Hosein-Singh has been released.

This four days after she was abducted in El Dorado.  

Reports say, she was found near the Caroni cremation site after 10 o’clock last night.

It is being reported that the release came after money was exchanged.

The family earlier this week denied that there was any ransom demand.

Reports are that a passer-by saw Mrs. Hosein-Singh and took her to the St. Joseph police station.

The 27-year-old spent four days in the hands of her kidnappers, after she was snatched last Saturday in El Dorado.

According to reports after she was found she was taken to the St. Joseph police station.

27 year old Ms. Hosein-Singh was grabbed by three armed men and forced into a silver Nissan b15, while setting up for work shortly before 6 am.

The getaway car was found abandoned several hours later in maracas, St. Joseph.

Deputy commissioner of police Suzette Martin, in charge of intelligence and investigations, supervised several special units including the anti-kidnapping unit, during the operation to find the woman.

Investigators are following certain leads to capture her abductors.

INCREASING TEMPERATURES IN GRENADA…

Grenadian’s are being warned about the increasing temperatures now affecting the country.

According to national ozone officer in the ministry of the environment, Leslie Smith, is warning of serious implications with increased global atmospheric temperatures.

He says, April this year was the hottest April on record.

According to Mr. Smith, in addition to increased power generation human health, the environment and production in the workplace are also impacted.

He also reports, that people’s electricity use and bills are expected to be increased significantly.

THE POLITICAL LEADER OF THE UNITED NATIONAL CONGRESS IS TRYING TO STALL THE INEVITABLE.

Former Couva North MP Ramona Ramdial says, the political leader of the united national congress is trying to stall the inevitable.

Ms. Ramdial believes the days of Kamla Persad Bissessar as leader of the UNC are numbered.

According to Ms. Ramdial Mrs. Persad Bissessar knows this.

She says, this is why she would have released the date for the national executive polls, but not the leadership election.

Ms. Ramdial says, usually, both polls are held at the same time and she believes Mrs. Persad Bissessar and her team are afraid.

She says, the UNC under Mrs. Persad Bissessar has been losing elections since it came into office in 2010.

Ms. Ramdial says, the election committee has been appointed and some members are already having issues, including herself.

She plans to write the election committee with the hopes of free and fear polls.

$1.5M BAIL FOR FORMER SSA TRIO…

Half a million dollars bail for each of the three former workers of the strategic services agency, one of them is a pastor.

Ian Brown and two others have been charged with misbehaviour in public office.

Police say, Mr. Brown, who was said to be the pastor and personal adviser to the former head of the SSA, major roger best, went to court yesterday.

Retired major best was last week fired, as director of the Premier Security Agency.

It was only last weekend Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley acknowledged, that the country had been “blindsided” by the operations of SSA.

According to police, Pastor Brown, a former special reserve police officer, was charged with misbehavior in public office, with possession of prohibited weapons and misbehaviour in public office to wit, possession of ammunition.

The authorities say a police sergeant, Sherwin Waldron, has also been charged with misbehaviour in public officer, to wit, transferring of prohibited weapon and misbehaviour in public office to wit, transferring of ammunition.

He is also jointly charged with Susan Portell Griffith.

They have all been granted 500 thousand dollars bail, and must return to court on June 27th  .

A statement says, on Monday this week the director of public prosecution, Roger Gaspard, SC, advised that charges be laid against the three.

In March, the government said, a perceived threat to national security was the rationale for its drastic intervention at the SSA

Dr. Rowley then confirmed the removal of major best as SSA director and replaced him with ambassador brigadier Anthony Phillips-Spencer, who was recalled from Washington where he served as the country’s ambassador to the United States.

THE POLICE TO PROBE AN ALLEGED SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST MINORS AT A HOME…

Media reports of alleged abuses by a minor against other children at a children’s home in central Trinidad, have not escaped the attention of The Children’s Authority of Trinidad And Tobago.

In a release the authority says, it is working closely with the Trinidad and Tobago police service, to determine all the facts.

The authority says, it has provided psychosocial support and medical care to the minor and this support and care will continue.

DOES THE POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION NEED REVAMPING ?

There is a view that the police service commission needs revamping.

This is the position of former head of the PSC Ramesh Deosaran.

Mr. Deosaran, who is also a criminologist, was taking issue with the prime minister’s reason for extending the tenure of Erla Harewood Christopher as police commissioner.

On Sunday Dr. Keith Rowley said, the extension was the only reasonable option.

Also professor Deosaran is of the view that the PSC should have activated its mission when, Mrs. Harewood Christopher got her first extension.

He says, Prime Minister Rowley must now move to reform the PSC.

Professor Deosaran also believes the opposition United National Congress must come on board, and give its view on the matter.

Yesterday, professor pointed to the number of murders and other serious crimes, including the kidnapping of businesswoman Anisha Hosein, which occurred on the weekend.

THE OPPOSITION LEADER SAYS “I TOLD YOU SO” THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE MINISTER OF FINANCE & THE AUDITOR GENERAL…..

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar

Opposition leader Kamla Persad Bissessar is not surprised by what she sees as the finance’s change of position regarding the rift, with the auditor general.

Last week government agreed to table the auditor general’s report in the parliament and have Jaiwantie Ramdass prepare second one.

At a meeting in Penal last evening, Mrs. Persad Bissessar said, the government had to back down on its position regarding the report from Ms. Ramdass.

Ms. Persad Bissessar recalled, predicting the outcome when she addressed the issue in the house.

She came down hard on the attorney general.

Now she is wondering if there is a plan to remove the auditor general from her independent office.

After days of controversy in the public space, last Sunday the Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said, the matter was unnecessary.

STILL NO LEADS IN THE KIDNAPPING OF BUSINESSWOMAN ANISHA HOSIEN.

Still no sign of the daughter of sauce doubles Anisha Hosein.

Last Saturday, she was kidnapped and up to yesterday searches in El Dorado and St. Joseph uncovered nothing.

Officers of the anti-kidnapping unit and the northern division, were involved in the search for Ms. Hosein.

Police are reportedly investigating a possible extortion link to the kidnapping.

Voice notes sent to the family, featured a man demanding six thousand dollars ($6,000.) are being examined.
