25-year-old woman killed in an early morning accident

An early morning journey ends in the death of a 25-year-old D’Abadie resident.

Police say Nelina Williams of Redwood Drive, La Florissante, died after her car slammed into a signpost and flipped several times near the Tarouba Flyover.

The tragedy happened sometime after 3am yesterday.

She was flung from the vehicle and ended up in the median.

Reports say the vehicle’s hood and a portion of the body remained tangled in a signpost.

A District Medical Officer viewed her body and ordered that it be removed to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Several people took to social media to express their condolences to her family.

Investigations are underway.

Country under Yellow Level alert

An active tropical wave is now hovering over Trinidad and Tobago.

The disturbed weather is drenching several parts of the nation and the MET office says it will continue to do so until noon tomorrow.

Senior Meteorologist Paula Wellington gave us an update on the situation.

The country remains under an adverse weather alert (Yellow Level).

Tourism Minister says overwhelming response for Royal Caribbean recruitment drive was because of persons not applying online and just showed up

Minister of Tourism Randall Mitchell says there was a significant amount of persons who showed up for the Royal Caribbean recruitment drive who had not applied online.

He says this is what led to the overwhelming response.

On Tuesday at NAPA and SAPA there was thousands of persons seeking to get jobs on board the cruise line.

Speaking at the Post Cabinet News Conference yesterday Minister Mitchell said some people came in as walks in.

Minister Mitchell said persons who did not complete the online process and walked in would be kept on a database.

The recruitment drive is to take place again today at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain.

17-year-old being questioned by police about fire at a Support Centre of the Children’s Authority

A 17-year-old female ward of the Children’s Authority is being questioned by the police in connection with a fire at a Support Centre.

The blaze occurred yesterday morning.

It forced the evacuation of 18 wards at the Centre.

The authority runs the home.

Deputy Fire Officer, Daren Darset said yesterday fire fighters from the Wrightson Road and Arima stations responded.

The children have been transferred to another facility.

The authority yesterday said no one was hurt.

Police say they received a call about the fire from a security guard on the compound.

Damage to the 2-storey building is still being assessed.

The fire started at around 1:52 am.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are being carried out.

Two charges for knife wielding school girl

Two charges are slapped on the student who allegedly stabbed a schoolmate during a fight at the Williamsville Junction.

The 15-year-old schoolgirl has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a weapon.

The alleged attacker and the wounded 15-year-old are students of the Williamsville Secondary School.

The girl charged is expected to appear in front of a Magistrate at the Princes Town Court today.

It is also reported today that the wounded girl who was slashed on the face, chest and left hand during the fight, was discharged from hospital.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Education assures counseling will be given to the now expelled alleged attacker.

Yesterday, Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly said counseling is being arranged.

Minister Gadsby-Dolly said a knife is the most popular weapon used in school violence.

She noted schools without a history of violence are now seeing incidents such as these.

Dr. Gadsby-Dolly said the police service had been asked to assist in keeping order among students even outside of the school compound.

Further the Minister said the role of parents is critical in curbing the current surge of student violence.

Hundreds seeking jobs on Royal Caribbean

Hundreds of people seeking jobs on Royal Caribbean Cruise Liners showed up at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain.

The crowd yesterday became angry and complained about the management of the application process.

There were long lines and the organisers of the process did not see many people.

Police officers were called into quell the tempered and keep control of the situation.

At the end of the day hundreds were not seen and they were told to return on Friday.

The recruitment drive follows a memorandum of understanding between Royal Caribbean and the Ministry of Tourism.

The MOT aims at facilitating employment for locals.

Several positions are to be filled.

The Ministry of Tourism yesterday said the response was overwhelming.

It said because of the response Royal Caribbean will stay on an extra day at NAPA so it can see other applicants.

Police question teen involved in stabbing incident at Williamsville Junction

Police have been questioning a 15-year-old female student of the Williamsville Secondary School who was reportedly involved in a stabbing incident.

Another female student of the school was wounded during the incident.

The victim’s grandmother describes what took place on Monday, as tragic

She also gave an update on her granddaughter’s condition after she was stabbed in the chest and face.

Up to last evening the student was still being treated at hospital.

The grandmother said the teen has been bullied at school.

The grandmother is wondering how the student came into possession of the knife used in the attack on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred on the Williamsville Junction.

It was reported to be the 2nd fight of the afternoon.

President of the Williamsville to Princes Town Taxi Association says incidents involving students happen regularly.

Up to late last evening the Form 2 suspect was being questioned by police.

Shopkeeper Edwin Joseph shot dead in Petit Valley

A shop owner is shot dead at his business place in Petit Valley.

Reports say Edwin Joseph also known as “Conqueror” was shot at the business located on Cameron Road just before 8 o’clock last night.

Newscenter 5 understands a man entered the shop and fired several shots at him.

The gunman then ran out.

Residents in the area heard the explosion and went to investigate.

They found Mr. Joseph in a pool of blood.

Police were called to the scene.

Officers took Mr. Joseph to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Meanwhile 2 men were shot around 8:30pm at Eligion Avenue, Diego Martin.

That incident took place around also on Tuesday night.

The wounded men are identified as Anthony Harraman and Stephen Luces.

They both live at Ramjohn Trace, Eligion Avenue, Diego Martin.

Both men were taken to the St. James Medical Complex for medical treatment.

And a police officer is among 2 people shot in Penal.

The officer has been identified as Richard Jagessar.

The identity of the other man has not yet been released.

The incident took place at Lowkie Trace in penal some time last night.

The victims were conveyed to the Siparia District Hospital then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital for additional treatment.

Search is on for one school girl after she stabs another in the chest, arm and face

A teenage girl is stabbed several times during a fight with a schoolmate at the Williamsville Junction.

The 15-year-old was stabbed in the chest, face and left arm during the fight at around 2:30pm yesterday afternoon.

The girls were in their school uniforms.

One of them is said to have taken out a knife and stabbed the other.

The girl was taken to hospital while the attacker fled the scene.

Police said last evening an arrest is imminent.

Archbishop of Port of Spain Jason Gordon speaks on the issue of child abuse within children’s homes in Trinidad and Tobago.

He explains why he took so long to respond to the issue, which has been in the public space for several weeks now.

Archbishop Gordon said yesterday his heart breaks over the details of the abuse.

The Archbishop said he has been having profound conversations with key people on the issue.

He vowed to do all in his power to treat with the situation at some homes. He made the comment after the celebration of holy mass for the memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of the church.
