Mercedes-Benz recalls almost 1 million cars over faulty brakes

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz is recalling almost 1million older vehicles from around the world because of potential problems with their braking system.

Over the weekend, the company said it would contact owners of the vehicles as their brakes may be affected by what it called “advanced corrosion”.

The recall affects a total of 993,407 vehicles, including 70,000 in Germany.

Mercedes recalled a similar number of cars last year over a safety issue with their emergency call system.

The company said the vehicles in the latest recall were built between 2004 and 2015 and were from its ML and GL series of SUVs and R-Class luxury minivans.

Mercedes said it is starting the recall immediately and that the process would involve inspecting the potentially faulty vehicles and replacing parts if necessary.

Last February, the company recalled over 1million cars because of a defect in its “Ecall” feature, which alerts emergency services of an accident and relays the vehicle’s location.

Doctors come together to condemn use of Pfizer’s children’s COVID jab

A group of doctors is insisting the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine is not necessary and may carrying some troubling side effects.

Although the government, via the Health Ministry has dismissed the concerns, some medical professionals are standing by their call to stop the vaccination of children.

Dr. Rajiv Seereeram of the Frontline Health Care Professionals Group says the Ministry is guilty of not being transparent and breaching ethics.

The group is pushing for acceptance of a declaration, which calls for the setting up of a fund to cater for children who suffer bad side effects after taking the vaccine.

Several health care professionals have endorsed the declaration, which was unveiled and discussed at a town hall meeting last week.

Pediatrician Dr. David Bratt told the meeting, the vaccine is flawed and not as effective as it should be.

And Dr. Javed Omardeen is yet to be convinced the vaccine is needed.

Several doctors have attached their names to the declaration, which calls on the Ministry of Health to immediately stop the vaccination process.

Industrial Court says, TSTT workers will stay on the job at least for now

The retrenchment at TSTT has hit a snag.

The Industrial Court yesterday granted a stay of retrenchment.

The company yesterday issued letters of retrenchment to 468 workers.

The Communication Workers Union represents 376.

President of the Industrial Court, Deborah Thomas Felix granted leave for TSTT to file its response to the union’s claims.

The court has ruled that the 376 workers who received letters should report for duty today.

But Secretary General of the CWU Clyde Elder says the workers are hurt and feel betrayed.

Last evening after the court’s ruling Mr. Elder said TSTT has been singing the same song over the past years, but it is dishonest in its utterances.

He feels the government is on a mission.

TSTT has said there is a need to restructure with urgency.

The majority State-owned company said yesterday 403 of the workers would receive payment inn lieu of the regulatory 45 days notice.

The hearing of the claims has been set for June 14th.
