A YOUNG CHILD CHOKES ON A FRUIT AND DIES…

A 3-year-old child is dead after choking on a fruit.

The name of the child has not yet been released.

Reports say the incident took place in Siparia.

The child was given a chennete by her relative.

It is reported soon after the child began choking.

The relatives of the child attempted abdominal thrusts in a bid to dislodge the chennete seed in her throat but to no avail.

The child was then rushed to the Siparia health facility where she was pronounced dead.

ELECTION RESULT GRIDLOCK IN LENGUA- INDIAN WALK…. BOTH THE PNM AND UNC CANDIDATES HAVE 1,428 VOTES.

The recount of election results in Lengua- Indian walk has ended in a tie

Yesterday after the first round of recounts the UNC and the PNM candidates had the same number of votes 1428.

The PNM’s candidate, is pastor Autly Granthume, while the UNC’s candidate is Nicole Gopaul.

A total of 14 requests were made to the Elections and Boundaries Commission after Monday’s poll.

Some of the results thus far have changed but not drastically to warrant any shifts.

Up to last evening the votes in Marabella West were still being recounted.

Initially the district was won by the united national congress by a 27-vote margin.

The Peoples National Movement requested the recount.

In Arima North-East district the recount was continuing last evening.

There is a dead heat there between the PNM and the UNC candidates.

Meanwhile reports are throwing up the names of persons to lead regional corporations post the election.

Businessman Balliram Maharaj is reported to be the choice for Mayor in Arima.

Former Minister Joseph Toney is said, to be the choice of the UNC to lead the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation.

The new Borough of Diego Martin may get Akeliah Glasgow as Mayor.

Tipped to be Mayor of the city of Port of Spain is Chinua Alleyne, a nephew of former Prime Minister Patrick Manning.

THE PLOT THICKENS…. AKIL ABDULLAH PUBLICLY STATES HE HAS INFORMATION TO BRING DOWN THE TOBAGO HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

Whistle-blower Akil Abdullah is claims he has damning information against Chief Secretary Farley Augustine.

Mr. Abdullah spoke was guest on a Tobago talk show last night.

This revelation comes on the heels of the Chief Secretary denying forcing Mr. Abdullah to confess in a tale of bribery and conspiracy allegations.

Yesterday Chief Secretary Farley Augustine strongly denied, that he forced whistleblower Akil Abdullah to make a confession to bribery and conspiracy.

This is said, to have led to a police investigation into executive members of the Tobago House of Assembly.

In a release, Mr. Augustine also denied that any of his aides forced Mr Abdullah into making such a confession.

He said there is irrefutable evidence of the several attempts made by Mr. Abdullah to have a meeting with the chief secretary.

Mr. Augustine also noted that the requests came via whats app messages, text messages and calls to the office of the Chief Secretary, making the requests weeks before a meeting was eventually granted.

OMARI PROVIDENCE STILL MISSING…

It is now over one week and there is still no sign of missing boy Omari Providence.

Now, artificial intelligence is now being used to locate the nine year old who is feared drowned.

Omari went missing at sea eight days ago.

He and his family were bathing at mission beach Toco last Sunday afternoon when he was pulled under. 

Search and rescue teams have been combing the waters where Omari disappeared, but he is yet to be found.

Acting Inspector of police and manager of the TTPS’ aviation unit, Ronny Rampallard confirms A.I assets are assisting in the search for Omari.   

Head of the search and rescue team Captain Valance Rambarath also applauds the use of the devices.

Acting Inspector Rampallard says, divers were in the water and he is hoping for the best outcome. 

Omari’s relatives are said to be praying for the best outcome.

POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING IN CENTRAL TRINDAD, KILLING ONE…

Investigations continue into a reported police involved shooting in central Trinidad.

According to reports the incident happened last Saturday, but details are now emerging. 

Police say, Rakesh Balliram was killed by officers following an alleged exchange of gunfire at around 5 pm.

Reports say, officers investigating a robbery went to Caparo Valley Road, Palmiste and found 31 year old Mr. Balliram driving a car reportedly stolen in the Brasso area earlier.

Police say the officers ordered Mr. Balliram to stop and exit the vehicle. 

However, he refused and a chase allegedly ensued.

While trying to flee Mr Balliram reportedly crashed into a parked car near double’s stockpile and transport company. 

He then exited the car and ran into the nearby swamp. 

Officers say they gave chase and found him hiding in some bushes, with a firearm in his hand. 

They say they ordered him to drop the weapon, but he fired twice at them – prompting them to return fire, hitting him several times.

Mr. Balliram was rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility, where he died.

An illegal firearm was allegedly recovered at the scene. Police say the deceased lived at Jerningham Junction Road, Cunupia

INTEGRITY COMMISSION ENDS PROBE INTO PRIME MINISTER…

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley

The Integrity Commission is standing by its decision to bring to an end the probe, into the Prime Minister’s purchase of a townhouse in Tobago.

The commission has said, Dr. Keith Rowley did omit to disclose the purchase but contrary to the integrity in public life act.

But it also added that Dr. Rowley’s omission was not deliberate.

Chairman of the commission Rajendra Ramlogan has confirmed receipt of a pre-action protocol letter, from attorneys representing political activist Ravi Balgobin Maharaj challenging the decision to close the investigation.

The commission has said, there is no criminal offence, and accompanying sanction within the statutory boundaries of the integrity in public life act.

Last night at a political meeting in penal leader of the opposition Kamla Persad Bissessar was suspicious, of the commission’s so called clearance.

She questioned the decision and the chairman’s tenure.

Chairman Ramlogan is reported as saying, a team of legal officers has been established to review the document and prepare a response.

He says a response is forthcoming by the deadline stipulated in the pre action protocol letter.

THE PRIME MINISTER, MAINTAINS THE UNC LEADER’S EMPTY THE CLIP STATEMENT IS IRRATIONAL & UNWISE ..BUT THE OPPOSITION REMAINS RESOLUTE.

Leader of the opposition Kamla Persad Bissessar faces more attacks from the Prime Minister, following her “empty the clip” comments.

Dr. Keith Rowley has already described the suggestion as reckless and irresponsible.

But last Saturday at another staging of the conversations with the Prime Minister, Dr. Rowley went further, telling the opposition leader, her trini-bad language is dangerous.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar has gotten support, and condemnation for her suggestion in dealing with the crime of home invasions.

He called on young people to avoid being taken in by the utterances of the opposition leader.

He also explained why his government won’t support, stand your ground legislation as is being pushed by the opposition.

THIS COUNTRY RECORDS ANOTHER MURDER ….THE VICTIM …RHODELL MARTIN.

Police are now investigating the deadly attack on 19-year-old Rondell Martin.

He was ambushed while making his way home in Diego Martin, last Saturday night.

Mr. Martin was said, to be on Walker Street when he was ambushed and shot several times about the body.

He died on the spot.

Mr. Martin was from Mohagany Trace Diego Martin.

After the shooting, his body was moved to the mortuary in Port of Spain.

The murder toll is being put at 344 so far this year.

FEMALE HOME OWNER SHOT AND KILLED A HOME INVADER…

A man considered a suspect in an attempted home invasion has been shot and killed by a female home owner in Chaguanas.

According to police reports, the situation happened at around 8:15 on Saturday night at Egypt Trace Endevour.

A woman and her 19-year-old daughter were at the home at the time.

They heard a commotion and realized that a group of men was trying to get into the house.

The woman went to one of the rooms in the house and took her husband’s licensed gun, and called out to the men, demanding they leave.

The men were reportedly continuing their efforts to get into the house and the woman fired a shot, hitting one of the men in the head.

His accomplices fled the scene.

The wounded man died on the premises.

Up to last evening there was no positive ID.

Police were called and the woman was questioned.

NO SUCCESS YET IN THE SEARCH FOR A NINE YEAR OLD BOY AT MISSION BEACH.

The search for a nine-year-old boy missing at sea continues.

The child is suspected to have drowned in Toco.

Reports say the incident took place yesterday, when five  people got into difficulty while bathing at Mission Beach Toco.

Newscentre five understands four of them were rescued but the boy disappeared under the water.

The police and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard were notified.

Up until last evening there was no sighting of the child.

Divers are expected to return to the area this morning to continue their search.

Insp. Ragbir, Insp. Sankar, SGT. Edwards CPLS Bhagan, and Andrews along with PC Maharaj of the Toco police station are conducting enquiries.
