Minister of Housing and Urban Development Camille Robinson Regis, is promising over three thousand new houses in the coming year from.

She says, this is the blueprint of her Ministry.

Yesterday, the Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation hosted a random selection draw.

Two hundred and fifty applicants are now one step closer to becoming homeowners.

Applicants were chosen for homes in the Bon Air North, Oasis Greens, Carlton place and Cypress Hills developments as well as Lakeview Bungalows.

Minister Robinson-Regis delivered the feature address.

She told of the plans saying, this will span various programmes and initiatives.

The Minister told of the accomplishments of the HDC over the last year.

Those chosen have been on the HDC’s housing application fulfillment system for over ten years. 

Government has agreed to further extend the deadline for public servants to decide on their position, regarding switching to the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority.

Finance Minister Colm Imbert says, the employees have until February 28th 2024.

The employees had until tomorrow to state their positions.

Before that the deadline was August this year.

The new deadline was stated in an email sent to the attorneys representing the public services association and customs officer Terrisa Dhoray who are challenges the planned change.

The PSA maintains the TTRA is unconstitutional, and filed an injunction to stop its implementation earlier this year.

However, the matter was dismissed by the high court earlier this month.

The union appealed the matter.

In a news release the PSA called on the Government to agree to an injunction or extend the deadline for workers to make the choice between their current job and the TTRA.

In its release yesterday, the PSA said Government relented and has extended the deadline for the implementation of the TTRA.

Sharon Clark Rowley, wife of Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, brings awareness to the prevalence of domestic violence.

Mrs. Rowley, tells of alarming statistics while addressing the “champion of the spotlight initiative”.

In presenting the data, the attorney said, hundreds of millions of women worldwide have been affected by intimate partner violence at some stage of their life.

Last Saturday the world commemorated International Day for the elimination of violence against women.

Mrs. Rowley told of the intervention that is the spotlight initiative and her role in it.

Mrs. Rowley said, women need a voice and many of them suffer abuse in silence.

She was speaking on the tv6 morning edition yesterday.

Officials of the Ministry of Works and Transport are expected to make an assessment on the safety of the Guapo roundabout, following another fatal accident since the opening of the new highway.

Over the weekend popular radio Dj Clyde “the outlaw” Jemmot, was killed in a vehicular crash at the roundabout.

Mr. Jemmot was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

It is not the first fatality in the area.

There have been complaints about a lack of lighting and proper signage along the new highway extension, leading to the roundabout.

Many have said, approaching the roundabout is also confusing.

Newscentre five understands a team from the Ministry of Works and Transport was at the site yesterday. There is a plan to visit other areas, which have so called dark spots.

Yesterday Point Fortin Mp Kennedy Richards said, there may be some truth to the claims.

He also said, there is need for signage and more lighting.

Mr. Jemmot worked at radio station 96.1 wefm.

Yesterday, his boss Tony Chow Lin on questioned the safety of the area.

Days after the Archibald-De Leon highway was opened, opposition MP Dr. Roodal Moonilal expressed concerns.

He too called for proper lighting and signage.  

The gun belonging to a woman police constable, has been stolen in Curepe.

The officer is attached to the Belmont police station.

The robbery at gunpoint took place last Sunday afternoon.

It is said, the 40-year-old officer parked her vehicle on the compound of a pharmacy at around 2:25pm.

After conducting business in the pharmacy the officer returned to her car, and was confronted by two masked men.

One of them had a handgun.

She was pulled out of her SUV and the bandits got in and drove off.

In the vehicle was her licensed glock 48 firearm, loaded with ten rounds of nine-millimeter ammunition.

Her cell phone and handbag containing cash and bankcards were taken along with the SUV.

A report was made to the St. Joseph station.

The vehicle was later found in Petit Bourg.

The items were missing.

An assurance that all systems are back to normal after the shut down by independent power producer, Trinidad Generation Unlimited.

T.G.U. is said to have told T&TEC the scheduled upgrade work at its union estate plant is now successfully completed.

The upgrade necessitated a total plant shutdown at T.G.U between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Communications Manager at T&TEC Annabelle Brasnell says, up to 9 am yesterday, all was working well.

There were fears that the shut down of the plant would have led to blackouts throughout the night.

But that did not happen.

However there was an outage in a part of Diego Martin on Friday night

An accident on the new highway to Point Fortin has claimed the life of 56-year-old radio Dj Clyde Jemmot.

Mr. Jemmot was known as the outlaw.

He was attached to 96.1fm on Tragarete Road in Port of Spain.

Reports are saying at around 430 am yesterday Mr. Jemmot and Johan Redhead were traveling east bound along the recently commissioned Archibald De Leon highway, when the vehicle slammed into a utility pole near the Guapo roundabout.

The vehicle is said, to have flipped throwing Mr. Jemmot and Mr. Redhead onto the roadway.

The two were returning from a party in Point Fortin.

Mr. Redhead is 35 years old and was the driver of the vehicle.

Mr. Redhead was up to yesterday afternoon said to be in a critical but stable condition.

It is not the first fatal accident on the new highway, shortly after it was opened to motorists two people died on the stretch.

The names are Kerlan Sutherland Otis Roach.

39-year-old Kerlan Sutherland was from parry lands while 29 year old Mr. roach lived at Sobo village La Brea.

A probe has started into the fire on the compound of the licensing office in Caroni.

Fourteen vehicles were destroyed by fire.

The fire is said to have occurred at around 3:30 am yesterday.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Transport Commissioner Clive Clark yesterday, confirmed the incident.

Mr. Clark said, the vehicles were impounded for various reasons.

The Commissioner is hoping to receive a report on the blaze within the coming days.
