MURDER AT A REIGIOUS SHRINE IN TABAQUITE…

Leader of the St. Michael Spiritual Baptist shrine,

Frank Moore, is shot dead.

The religious leader was at his Tabaquite home, which also served as a shrine, at around 2:30 am yesterday when a man entered.

The stranger reportedly held two persons under duress, and jostled the duo into Mr. Moore’s bedroom.

The armed assailant reportedly questioned Mr. Moore about a man.

However, during the interrogation, the gunman shot Mr. Moore in the head.

He was 36 years old.

Investigations are underway.

In February of 2022, Mr. Moore survived an attempt on his life, when he was shot multiple times.

On that occasion, a gunman ambushed and shot him and a woman as he drove along a forested area, near the Tabaquite Composite School.

Mr. Moore, the owner of a spiritual shop in Couva, was shot five times and his female worker, was shot once.

The suspect was never found.

At that time Mr. Moore told police the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

Mr. Moore’s killing, brings the number of homicides for 2024 to 18.

“DISAPPOINTING” SAYS DR. AMERY BROWN…

Meanwhile there was a situation on the compound of the Academy of the Performing Arts, when former finance minister Karen Nunez Teshiera and her political leader, Timothy Hamel Smith jumped over a fence to get to the funeral service.

She referred to her former colleague in government Dr Amery Brown, whom she accused of ignoring her request to get in.

Dr. Brown found the behaviour of Ms. Nunez Teshiera disappointing.

But the deputy leader of the new party called HOPE, insisted she was not trying to get attention or create a scene.

Ms. Nunez Teshiera served as finance minister under the Patrick Manning government, and mister Hamel Smith serviced as president of the senate under the peoples partnership.

A STAR STUDDED SEND OFF FOR SOCA STAR RICARDO DRUE IN ANTIGUA & BARBUDA…

The entertainment community, adoring fans, friends and family gather to say farewell to Antigua born soca star Ricardo Drue.

He was laid to rest in his homeland yesterday.

The 37 year old, he passed away suddenly on December 12th, 2023 in Antigua and Barbuda.

A star studded send off was held at the Holy Family Cathedral, St. John’s.

Delivering the homily, catholic priest, the Rev Father Athanasius George Williams.

Present at the ceremony yesterday, was Prime Minister Gaston Brown, among other dignitaries.

Ricardo Drue was the son of regional media personality Nicola Barriteau who remembered his long love for entertainment.

Mr. Drue was the father of four sons and a daughter.

His sons spoke of him in their eulogy.

Soca star Destra Garcia paid tribute in song.

Also among those paying tribute were artistes Skinny Fabulous, Teddyson John, King Bubba and Ricardo’s brother nick.

TWO MURDERS ENGAGE THE ATTENTION OF POLICE…

Two men have been killed, one in downtown Port of Spain and the other in San Raphael.

This brings it to, 17 people murdered in the last eight days.

Last year this time the number was 12.

Yesterday morning, 39 year old Omar Hunte was shot and killed near the breakfast shed in Port of Spain.

Mr. Hunte died at the scene, but a man known only as ‘smiley’ was up to yesterday hospitalised.

After the shooting the gunman ran east, across the Brian Lara promenade.

The breakfast shed remained closed as a result of the shooting, which reportedly occurred at around 5:45am

In San Rafael 60-year-old McDonald Le Blanc, of Tumpuna road South San Rafael was shot and killed.

He was taken to the Arima hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Canadian citizens are warned by their government, of an upsurge in incidents of kidnappings for ransom in Trinidad and Tobago.

Canada has issued a travel advisory for its citizens visiting Trinidad & Tobago.

Cruise ship passengers, are also advised to exercise extreme caution when walking around the docks in Port of Spain. It also tells them that the response of the police service is sluggish

FORMER PRIME MINISTER BASDEO PANDAY GOES TO HIS FINAL RESTING PLACE TODAY …

The nation is to pay a collective goodbye, to former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday.

Mister Panday died at a hospital in the United States, at the age of 90 years old on New Years day.

Today he is to be cremated after a state funeral, which begins at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts.

Mister Panday’s daughter, Mikela is expected to deliver the eulogy at the service today.

There are also tributes expected from Mr. Panday’s brother Subhas Panday, and long time political colleague and former Minister John Humphrey.

President of the Republic, Christine Kangaloo is to pay tribute to Mr. Panday, who died at the age of 90 on January 1st, 2024.

Yesterday, scores of people paid their respects to Mr. Panday as his body laid at the SAPA.

Mr. Panday died at a hospital, in Jacksonville Florida.

Among those expected to attend the 9am service today, include Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and leader of the opposition Kamla Persad Bissessar.

At the end of the service, Mr. Panday ‘s body will be taken to the shore of peace cremation site Mosquito Creek.

Traffic restrictions are expected in San Fernando today.

Parking will be available for members of the public at skinner park second grounds, on Todds Street in San Fernando, opposite Sapa and next to the ASJA Boys College.

TT COAST GUARD ARRESTED FOUR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

Four illegal immigrants, are arrested after the coast guard chased a vessel suspected of crossing the international maritime border, between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.

A statement from the TTCG says, the vessel ran aground and the women were detained.

Residents along Los Iros beach reported, hearing an exchange of gunfire within the waters.

According to a statement from the coast guard last evening, around 10.25 a.m. Yesterday the suspicious vessel was observed south of Erin Point.

The coast guard said, that it pursued the vessel, resulting in it being grounded at the Los Iros bay area.

The release says, four people were observed fleeing the scene were arrested.

The TTCG says, quick action by its crew led to the apprehension of four adult females.

It says, the immigration division and Trinidad and Tobago police service were informed.

Investigations are ongoing.

The Trinidad and Tobago coast guard says, it continues to provide border security, search and rescue services in order to maintain the safety and security of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, through the conduct of maritime security patrols within our area of operations.

TOP COP REVISITS NEED FOR GOD’S SUPPORT IN CRIME FIGHT.

Not for the first time, the woman in charge of the Trinidad and Tobago police service, Erla Harewood Christopher is reaching out to God for help in the fight against crime.

With the murder toll in double digits so far this year, yesterday, the police commissioner told a service at the cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Port of Spain, God will intervene.

The police commissioner got some words of advice from father David khan.

He feels, she needs help.

The commissioner is ready to collectively deal with the situation.

A total of 15 murders, have been committed in the country since the start of the New Year.

In the latest incident, Selwyn Pierre was gunned down in Aranguez 

Newscentre five understands Mr. Pierre was robbed of his vehicle before being shot dead.

A 26-year-old loader employed with the National Carnival Commission, was gunned down at the Queen’s Park Savannah.

Police say, Akile Archer was killed at around 1:45pm yesterday.

He was discovered with a bullet wound to his head.

Meanwhile, at around 9:30 yesterday morning Afiba Moraldo is gunned down in Mt. Lambert.

Reports say, the murder took place near a shop.

One man was shot dead in Belmont on Saturday night. 

The victim has been identified as Shakell George.

He was 25 years old.

POLICE ARREST FIVE AFTER FIVE ARE SHOT TWO FATALLY AT THE TUNAPUNA MARKET….

Five men are arrested in connection with the gun attack at the Tunapuna market.

The assault left two men dead and three others including a female, wounded.

Sen. Supt. Richard Smith tells newscentre five, the incident happened at around 8pm on Wednesday when four men alighted a brown Nissan Sylphy, on the priority bus route.

Police reports say, over 40 spent shell casings have been recovered from the scene.

Sen. Supt. Smith says, quick work by officers led to the interception of a group, they believe are responsible.

Those who escaped with their lives have been identified as Nathaniel Gajadhar, of St. John Road, St Augustine, Kevon Alexander, of Freeman Road, St Augustine and Kristen Hosein, who up to last evening, was said to be in a critical condition.

DISCHARGE OFFICER IN GLENCOE DOUBLE MURDER SAYS A RETIRED BIRGADIER….

A fatal oversight is being blamed for the circumstances, which led to the brutal murder of two women.

This is the view of former police commissioner James Philbert.

Calida Schamber and Carmelita Deleon were brutally gunned down in Carenage on Tuesday morning, by a soldier who is now detained

The lone suspect is the companion of Ms. Schamber.

He was also the subject of a restraining order.

Former top cop James Philbert views the deaths as a tragedy.

Mr. Philbert is adamant these homicides should not have happened.

Retired Brigadier Carl Alfonso recalls, that he also had to deal with similar matters while at the helm of the TTDF.

Brigadier Alfonso suggests, in this particular case, the institution fell down on the job. 

Meanwhile, former soldier Garth St Clair says, there should have been an intervention.

The men were guests of the afternoon drive program on I95.5 FM, on Wednesday.
