THE PRIME MINISTER TOLD PROBE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST HER MINISTER OF HOMELAND SECURITY…

The People’s National Movement is demanding an immediate independent probe, into the allegation that Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander, met with gang leaders before and after the last general election at a state prison.

Via a voice note yesterday, PNM chairman Marvin Gonzales said, there must be an investigation into these serious allegations, to determine the facts.

He said, the government must ensure public trust in the nation’s institutions is not further eroded.

He called on Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, to issue a public statement on this matter.

Minister alexander has signaled his intent, to take legal action against Ms. Primus over statements made about him.

Lawyer for detained prisons supervisor Garth Guada, has written to Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro demanding a “full and immediate” investigation into the matter.

Yesterday at a news conference, Crystal Primus lamented the conditions under which her client is being kept.

Minister Alexander has signaled his intent, to take legal action against Ms. Primus over statements made about him.

RELATIVES OF MARIAH SEENATH ARE CALLING FOR JUSTICE …

A twelve-year-old girl has been found dead in a track near the friendship village recreation ground in Ste. Madeline.

The girl’s name is Mariah Seenath.

She was a student of Ste. Madeleine secondary school.

Her body was discovered just after midday last Saturday.

According to police, a passerby noticed dogs in the area and on checking, found the child lying motionless with a bruise to her stomach and grass around her neck.

Her father Marlon Seenath believes Mariah was murdered.

Speaking with reporters Mr. Seenath called for justice.

The body was removed to the San Fernando general hospital mortuary.

A post-mortem is expected at the forensic science centre.

Investigators say, Mariah was last seen leaving her grandmother’s home that morning, on her way to her father’s residence.

Officers from homicide region III are leading the investigation.

GOVERNEMNT HOPES TO RE-OPEN THE COUVA CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL BY THE END OF THE YEAR…

Government is assuring every effort is being made to fully operationalize the stalled, Couva Children’s Hospital.

During a tour of the multi billion-dollar hospital yesterday, government ministers and other officials were shown pieces of equipment which are now obsolete, because of lack of use after completion more than ten years ago.

The hospital has never been fully utilized by the previous Peoples National Movement government, except for a short period during the covid-19 pandemic.

The United National Congress out of office repeatedly slammed the last government for not putting to use, what was lacking in the health sector.

Bio medical engineers attached to UDECOTT, showed how expensive equipment were never put to use and some were still in plastic.

Health minister Dr. Lackram Bodoe and works and Infrastructure Minister Jerlean John were present.

The hospital has 230 beds, 150 for adults and 80 for children.

Many still wrapped in plastic.

Minister John said, she is hoping for an opening by the end of the year.

Health minister Dr. Bodoe said staffing the hospital is being addressed.

Members of the media were also part of the tour.

KESHORN WALCOTT WINS JAVELIN GOLD AT WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TOKYO…

Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott captures the gold medal, the men’s javelin throw event of the ongoing world athletics championships in Tokyo.

He defeated the star-studded line-up of Neeraj Chopra, Arshad Nadeem, Anderson Peters and Julian Weber a short while ago.

The 32-year-old athlete touched the distance of 88.16 m in his fourth attempt, which helped him finish at the top.

India’s Neeraj Chopra, who was the defending champion, finished 8th with the best throw of 84.03 m, and Pakistan’s Nadeem finished 10th in the final with a distance of 82.75 m.

A MAJOR SHAKE UP IN THE EXECUTIVE OF THE TTPS…

Changes at the top of the police service

Assistant Commissioner of police Wayne Mystar, has been sent on vacation.

It is expected to be out for 16 months.

It is reported, Wayne Mystar was told of the police commissioner’s decision yesterday morning.

The commissioner has also reassigned deputy commissioners of police Junior Benjamin Suzette Martin and Natasha George.

Mr. Benjamin was moved from operations to administration, Mr. Martin from intelligence to operations; and Mr. George from administration to intelligence and investigations.

The changes are said to have surprised many in the police service, particularly since the country is still under a state of emergency.

Last week the Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander advised senior officers, to set aside their differences and work with their commissioner – or get out of service.

Minister Alexander made the comment during a passing-out parade at the, St. James barracks.

At the time, minister Alexander hinted at tensions among the hierarchy of the police service.

The minister later denied he was directing the warnings to any particular officer, and insisted his only objective had been to encourage all officers to recommit to the job.

OVER THREE HUNDRED URP WORKERS ARE HOME TODAY, THEIR SERVICES TERMINATED…

The Kamla Persad Bissessar government is under fire again, for its decision to terminate the services of scores of workers.

This time it is at the unemployment relief programme.

The termination letters were issued yesterday.

The line minister for the URP Kadijah Ameen, has insisted the move is part of the restructuring of the programme.

The minister said it should not be seen as political.

At a public meeting of the opposition Peoples National Movement in the west last evening, political leader Penelope Beckles questioned the prime minister’s love for the people.

Similar actions were taken at CEPEP and the reforestation programmes, shortly after the government assumed office in April this year.

Thousands went home triggering criticisms from the opposition, Peoples National Movement.

OVER TWO HUNDRED ILLEGAL VENEZUELAN MIGRANTS TO BE DEPORTED…

Government plans to deport more than 200 Venezuelan migrants, who are here illegally.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar says, her government is committed to securing the nation’s borders and dealing with illegal immigration.

She is reported as saying, a vessel was dispatched and arrived off cedros yesterday.

According to the prime minister, the police service has increased its monitoring of migrants who enter the country illegally.

She is telling of plans to upgrade the Cedros coast guard facility, and have more vessels dispatched  to the area.

The 200 migrants are said to be housed at the detention centre, in the east and in the two main jails.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar is reported as saying, the Venezuelan ambassador is working with Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister Sean Sobers and defence minister Wayne Sturge.

Meanwhile, the prime minister says, no state resources will be wasted searching the sea for bodies of Venezuelans killed by the United States military.

Last week, eleven Venezuelans were killed by the US in, international waters labeled as narco terrorists, and belonging to the drug cartels.

According to Prime Minister Persad Bissessar Trinidad and Tobago’s duty ends, with recovering any carcasses that wash ashore.

It was the prime minister’s response to a call by Colombian President, Gustavo Petro on the government of Trinidad and Tobago to search for the remains, of the 11 men killed in the strike.

Local police are yet to identify the two bodies, which washed ashore over the last weekend.

SUPPORT YOUR COMMISSIONER OR GET OUT OF THE SERVICE…

The Homeland Security minister, tells executives of the police service to stand behind their commissioner or get out of the service.

Roger Alexander was addressing the passing out parade of batches, three and four of 2024 at the police academy in St. James yesterday.

Looking directly at members of the ttps executive  minister alexander called on them to fully support commissioner alister guevarro or get out

He noted in recent times, some in the executive of the TTPS who are not in support of the commissioner.

He told members of the executive, to do their jobs or get out of the service.

To the new recruits, minister Alexander pointed to the threats facing the country.

He called on them to protect and serve with pride.

QUESTIONS OVER LEGITMACY OF LATEST CAL STATEMENT ON THE STATUS OF COMPANY CEO…

The authenticity of yet another missive, purporting to have come from Caribbean Airlines regarding the status of its chief executive officer, Garvin Medera is being questioned.

Yesterday, a document was being circulated saying Mr. Medera had been sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal review.

His leave was reportedly with immediate effect.

Later in the day, without any ownership of that missive, Caribbean Airlines denied the so-called release was bonafide.

A brief statement said the information in circulation was false.

There has been no official word from the line minister, finance minister Davendranath Tancoo or Mr. Medera

The airline and its operations got a tongue-lashing from, Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar last month.

She said, the airline was losing money and it had two years to get its house in order.

The prime minister said if this does not change, people would lose their jobs.

It is now being reported Mr. Medera has been sent on vacation leave.

Mr. Medera has been CEO of the airline, over the past eight years.

RECKLESS & BENEATH THE OFFICE SAYS OPPOSITION OF PRIME MINISTERS KILL THEM ALL STATEMENT…

More criticisms for Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s kill them violently comment after the claim by the Americans, which they had shot up a boat carrying drugs.

The boat reportedly left Venezuela, and was attacked in international waters by US soldiers on warships deployed to the area.

Among those critical of the prime minister is opposition leader Pennelope Beckles, who calls on her to retract the statement.

Yesterday, Mrs. Beckles called the comment reckless, disgraceful and inconsistent with the oath she has taken to uphold the constitution and the law” .

According to Mrs. Beckles the statement by the prime minister was “completely unbecoming of the head of state who is expected to be more prudent in her language”.

The opposition leader posted on her Facebook page that Mrs. Persad Bissesar’s inflammatory social media output, draws the country into unnecessary conflict.

She said, such a statement disregarded the potential for heightened tensions between Venezuela and the United States, which she said could be reduced through prudent and diplomatic engagement.
