A TWELFTH BABY HAS DIED AT THE PORT OF SPAIN NICU…..

The Northwest Regional Health Authority say, yes another baby has died at its Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit of the Port of Spain General Hospital.

The number of recent bacterial related deaths has now reached twelve.

The baby died yesterday morning, at around two o’clock.

The baby girl was born on February 28th at a gestation of, 29 weeks and two days.

The child weighed two pounds 14 ounces.

She also had jaundice.

The NWRHA is insisting there is no breakdown of operations, at the unit in Port-of-Spain.

In a statement yesterday, the authority calls the claims of a collapsed system, irresponsible and unfortunate.

The health minister Terrence Deyalsingh yesterday told a news conference, the issue has now become political.

He sought to assure the public some of the statements on the issue are not accurate.

THREE MEN ARE KILLED….ONE IS THE BROTHER OF A STATE WITNESS…

Two men gun down the brother of the main witness in the murder trial against six police officers, during an ambush in Moruga.

Oba Gill James and his employee Brandon Seenath, were killed at their home yesterday afternoon.

Mr. James’ brother Shumba James was a witness for the prosecution.

He was to testify against the officers who were charged with the murders of 23-year-old Abigail Johnson, 28 year old Alana Duncan, and 26 year old Kerron ‘fingers’ Eccles, on July 22nd 2011 on Rochard Douglas Road.

After spending 13 years on remand and a trial, the six officers were freed.

Oba James and Brandon Seenath were killed at around 530pm.

Two men are said to have approached them and opened fire.

Mr. James and Mr. Seenath died at the scene of the attack.

VENEZULAN NATIONAL REMAINS FOUND…

The decapitated remains of a man in San Juan have been identified as, Venezuelan national José Gregorio Maldonado Carillo.  

The remains were found on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports are saying a 63-year-old farmer stumbled upon the body off vita street Sunshine Avenue.

The man is said to have followed a burning smell, and came upon the headless body

Police reports say 40-year-old Mr. Carillo was identified by several tattoos, on his body.

He reportedly owned a pizzeria in Aranguez and went missing on Saturday, along with his Kia Sorento SUV.

Police are continuing investigations

TWO SETS OF TWINS AMONG ELEVEN DECEASED INFANTS AT ONE OF THE COUNTRY’S LEDING HOSPITALS…THE PRIME MINISTER IS TROUBLED.

A total of eleven babies are reported to have died at the neo-natal intensive care unit of the Port of Spain general hospital.

It started at seven, and then it went to eight, and now stands at 11

The lawyers representing parents, who intend to file a class action lawsuit, have sent a fifth pre-action protocol letter to the Northwest Regional Health Authority.

Prime minister Dr. Keith Rowley wants to know the facts surrounding the deaths.

He babies are said to have picked up infections while they were patients at the neo-natal intensive care unit at the hospital.

Seven of the deaths came within a four-day period, in March this year.

Dr. Rowley is vowing to get to the core of what happened.

Yesterday, Dr. Rowley called for patience.

He urged that people should wait on the findings of an investigation.

PAHO is leading an independent probe.

MP AMEEN INVOLVED IN A DOMESTIC INVESTIGATION…

St. Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen

An investigation is at this time being conducted into a reportedly violent incident involving the Member of Parliament, for St. Augustine and an ex-boyfriend in Macoya Tunapuna.

Khadijah Ameen initially claimed she was being held against her will, by man she knows.

It is said, at around 2:46 am yesterday Ms. Ameen arrived at the Tunapuna police station saying after having drinks with her estranged boyfriend, there was an incident.

They are reported to have left the bar for Ms. Ameen’s vehicle, which was parked in Macoya

She reveals that while on the way to her vehicle there was an altercation, and then she was hit in the right side of her abdomen, and slammed her head on the vehicle’s door.

Ms. Ameen was able to get out of the car, entered her black Toyota Rav-4 and drove away.

Police intercepted by the car north along Pasea Road in Tunapuna.

Ms. Ameen was escorted to the Tunapuna station, where she refused to make a witness statement and left.

THE NWRHA TO FACE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THE DEATH OF SEVEN PRE-TERM BABIES…

There is a promise, that the investigation into the deaths of seven babies at the Port of Spain general hospital will be thorough and transparent.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Northwest Regional Health Authority Anthony Blake vows that there will be no cover-up.

The parents of the babies are already threatening a class action lawsuit.

The deaths were confirmed by the NWRHA last Thursday.

The deaths occurred at the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, and were the result of dangerous organisms.

United National Congress Fyzabad MP, Dr. Lackram Bodoe blames a lack of protocols at the Port of Spain general hospital, for the deaths of seven babies in four days.

Speaking at the opposition news conference yesterday Dr. Bodoe said, there was a shortfall in resource.

Dr. Bodoe also said, the Minister of Health Terrance Deyalsingh must truthfully come forward, with information in his possession.

The minister gave a statement of the deaths, of the infants in the parliament last Friday.

He said, his ministry; PAHO and CARIRI have all launched probes.

Reports yesterday say, the parents of seven babies who died as a result of bacterial outbreaks, at the Port of Spain General Hospital are pursuing a class action lawsuit for medical negligence.

Former attorney general Anand Ramlogan is representing them.

The pre-action protocol letter dated April 12th 2024, sent by freedom law chambers to the Northwest Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) claims; the authority permitted another baby who was suffering from a serious infection to be admitted, without taking the necessary precautions.

INTERNAL RAMBLINGS OF THE UNITED NATIONAL CONGRESS CAUSES UPROAR IN THE PARLIAMENT…

Chaguanas West MP, Dinesh Rambally, slams his political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar saying; it is time for her to make her exit.

He says, once Mrs. Persad Bissessar remains the leader of the United National Congress, the party will remain in opposition.

Mr. Rambally was speaking at a media conference this morning.

Mr. Rambally said, all critique of Mrs. Persad Bissessar’s leadership is legitimate.

He said, he couldn’t in good conscience allow Mrs. Persad Bissessar to take the UNC down with her.

There was an uproar on the government bench this afternoon when leader of government business, Camille Robinson Regis spoke of Mr. Rambally’s comments in the lower house.

The government and the opposition were earlier in a heated exchange in the parliament after Oropouche East MP Dr. Roodal Moonilal, was accused of making derogatory statements against health minister, Terrence Deyalsingh.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH LAUNCHES PROBE INTO DEATHS OF SEVEN NEW BORNS AT THE NWRHA…

Three forms of bacteria have been found at the neo natal ward, where seven babies died in a week.

Minister of health Terrence Deyalsingh expressed condolences, as he told of the development.

Minister Deyalsingh said, that inquiries by the north west regional health authority revealed deadly bacteria.

He said, adverse events protocol is now engaged.

Questions were posed to the minister by the opposition United National Congress during the urgent questions segment, but he deferred to ministers statements.

O.J SIMPSON DIES AFTER BATTLE WITH CANCER

Former us footballer O.J Simpson has died aged 76, following a prostate cancer diagnosis.

In a statement, his family says Mr. Simpson was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Before 1994, Mr. Simpson, known as “the juice”, was regarded with affection by the public, well known as a professional athlete and actor.

He then became the main suspect in his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson’s death, which led to the “trial of the century” in 1995.

Before his arrest, millions of Americans watched as the police chased his white bronco car for 90 minutes live on TV.

He was acquitted of Nicole Brown Simpson’s murder, and of the murder of her friend Ronald Goldman.

CBS’ Gail King spoke with Ed Gordon, the first journalist to speak with Mr. Simpson, after his acquittal.

EARTHQUAKE HITS TRINIDAD & TOBAGO, AND BARBADOS…

A 3.5 magnitude earthquake has shaken parts of Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados.

The University of the West Indies seismic research centre, recorded the early morning quake.

In an update at around 5am, the UWI SRC said, the event was located around 120 kilometers northeast of Scarborough Tobago, and 131 kilometers southwest of Barbados. There have been no reports of damage or injuries.
