Heritage Petroleum confirms the electrocution of Dean Williams at Rifle Range in the Palo Seco area.

In a release, Heritage Petroleum says it received reports at around 11:30am on Saturday of the tragic loss of life.

It says the reports indicated that, 34-year-old Mr. Williams, a resident of the area, came into contact with a live electrical line from an illegal connection from a Heritage low voltage power line to his home.

Heritage officials are said to have visited the scene along with officials from the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the District Medical Officer.

It says all relevant regulatory bodies have been informed of the incident and the TTPS is investigating.

Heritage says it is truly saddened by this tragedy.

It says it will continue to prevent and discourage persons from establishing illegal electrical connections from the company’s grid.

It says it is their sincere hope that no such loss of life will ever occur in the future.

The company expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

There are 8 more COVID-19 cases in the country.

The Ministry of Health yesterday said the new cases are from samples taken between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

The death toll remains at 125.

According to the Ministry, as of yesterday there were 436 active cases of the virus and the total number of recorded infections since March stands at 7,112.

Twenty-nine patients are hoispitalised but 358 are in home self-isolation.

Thirty-seven of them are under the care of the prison system.

The Ministry said 6,551 patients have fully recovered.

One hundred and thirty-four people are at state quarantine facilities.

Forty-one people are in step down facilities.

Two Venezuelans are arrested and a shotgun with 2 rounds of 12- gauge cartridges seized in Cunupia.

Reports say at around 9pm on Saturday while on exercise duty along David Toby Road, Chin Chin officers of the Cunupia Criminal Investigations Department stopped a white Nissan B-12.

A search was conducted and officers allegedly found 1 shotgun in the back seat of the car along with two rounds of 12-gauge cartridges.

Two persons were arrested.

The items were secured and taken to the station with the suspects. Investigations are ongoing.

Three killings overnight, one in Diego Martin, one in Curepe and the other in Tunapuna .

A doubles vendor identified as Kareem Jarvis also known, as “Smokey” is one of the dead.

Mr. Jarvis was employed at the popular sauce doubles and was serving customers last night when he was shot in Curepe.

The shooting sent customers scampering for safety.

The gunmen fired the deadly shots from within a vehicle.

They then sped off.

Mr. Javis was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The other murder victim is Mikel Diaz who was shot in Tunapuna at around 7:30pm.

The incident occurred at the corner of St. Thomas Street.

And the man gunned down in Diego Martin is yet to be identified.

That incident occurred at a bar on Gopaul Street shortly after 8pm.

Police probe 3 murders, 2 in St. James and 1 in Caroni.

In the latest situation, 2 men are shot dead at their home in Dibe, Long Circular.

The identities of the dead men have not yet been released.

Reports say the incident took place this morning.

Newscenter 5 understands residents reported hearing several explosions coming from the house before calling the police.

When lawmen arrived they found the bodies of the 2 men with multiple gunshot wounds.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

And a man well known to police is gunned down in Caroni

He has been identified as Doorel Simon.

Reports say the incident took place around 10:05 last night.

Newscenter 5 understands Mr. Simon was walking with his female companion along the road way near D&C Convenience Store when a vehicle pulled up along side them and 2 men armed with guns began firing shots.

Mr. Simon was hit several times about his body.

He died at the scene.

The woman was unhurt.

The armed assailants then fled the scene in the vehicle.

Police believe the killing may have been drug related.

Investigations are continuing.

There are now 26 new cases of the coronavirus in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Ministry of Health said yesterday the total number of cases since the first infection now stands at 7,000.

The deaths remain at 123.

In its update yesterday the Ministry said there are currently 420 active cases of the virus.

The total number of patients at hospital is 20.

Four hundred and twenty-two are in State quarantine facilities and 354 are in home self-isolation.

The Ministry said of the 354 persons at home, 37 are in the care of the prison system.

Twelve people have been arrested in connection with breaching the COVID-19 regulations.

They were among 17 people held during an Anti-Crime Exercise in the Couva district last Friday.

In a statement the TTPS says officers of the Central Division proceeded to a nightclub at Perseverance, where they arrested 12 people for breach of the COVID regulations.

It says the partygoers who live in the Couva and California districts, were also ticketed for failing to wear a facemask.

The officers then proceeded to an apartment building at Lisas Gardens, Couva, where they arrested a 30-year-old man for possession of a Smith and Wesson Revolver loaded with 3 rounds of ammunition.

The TTPS says at that same location, a 26-year-old man was held for possession of a quantity of cocaine.

It says as the exercise continued, officers arrested 3 other people relative to ongoing investigations into reports of robbery with violence and kidnapping.

The government is getting the backing of the Movement for Social Justice

Political leader of the MSJ, David Abdullah yesterday said the government has every right to be concerned about the number of migrants making the journey from Venezuela to Trinidad and Tobago.

Mr. Abdullah agrees with the Prime Minister when he last week made the distinction between a refugee and a migrant worker.

He said his MSJ is not supporting illegal entry into Trinidad and Tobago.

The MSJ leader also noted that there are some non-governmental organisations, which are adding to the migrant problems, by encouraging illegal entry.

And the Venezuelan authorities are saying a total of 31 bodies have been found from the Guiria shipwreck which was reportedly bringing Venezuelans to Trinidad and Tobago.

Protesters staged a demonstration outside the Trinidad and Tobago Embassy in Washington yesterday, condemning this country’s treatment of Venezuelans seeking refuge.

Protesters insisted the Venezuelans were turned back from Trinidad and Tobago and later drowned.

The government of Trinidad and Tobago and the Coast Guard has said that is false information.

And the United States Embassy in Port of Spain says don’t blame its sanctions on Venezuela for the suffering of the Venezuelan people.

In a statement yesterday the US Embassy said the blame for the problems in Venezuela is being incorrectly placed on the US.

The Embassy said Nicolas Maduro and his supporters are to be blamed for the dire economic, political and human rights conditions in Venezuela.

According to the statement millions of Venezuelans have fled their homes since Mr. Maduro assumed office.
