MINISTER APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED…

An apology from the MP for Port of Spain North St. Anns West, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Stuart Young.

In a brief statement via his facebook page yesterday MP Young said, he was sorry for comments he made in the parliament one week ago.

The cross talk last Thursday targeted opposition leader kamla persad bissessar and one of her MP’s, Ravi Ratiram.

The incident is being described as a hot mic issue.

Opposition MP’s walked out during a sitting of the standing finance committee in the house.

As members were leaving their seats there was cross talk coming from mp young and the finance minister Colm Imbert.

The video clip has gone viral and many have condemned Mr. Young and Mr. Imbert.

MP young yesterday admitted that better is expected of him, as a representative of the people.

He said, the comments generated much attention.

He also said, that he hopes and trust that his record of service to the country speaks for itself.

The minister further assures that he will continue to serve without fear of favor, malice or ill-will.

Many have condemened the comments made by the minister and called for him to be sent to the privileges committee of the parliament.

Opposition leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar is not impressed by the minister’s facebook post.

Her side is preparing to convince the speaker, that Mr. Young should be sent before the privileges committee of the parliament.

She is reported as saying the minister should be punished.

Mrs. Annisette George is expected to rule on a motion filed by the opposition.

Chief whip David Lee says the comments were obscene, offensive and insulting.

CHARGES OF MURDER LAID AGAINST THE PARENTS OF HANNAH MATHURA…

The parents of Hannah Mathura have been charged with her murder.

65-year-old Andrew Mathura and 63-year-old Alana Girod, were taken in by police yesterday.

The couple was at their Butu Road Valsayn home when they arrested.

The parents were taken to the arouca police station where they were processed and charged last evening.

Hannah Mathura was 18 years old when she disappeared.

She was last seen alive in 2017.

Skeletal remains were found in the backyard of her home, and they were confirmed to be those of Hannah.

It is reported in today’s Express Newspaper, that investigators had been meticulously building a case in the matter.

The couple was initially arrested on March 13th.

Their seven children, and others are reported to have given statements to the police.

IMPLEMENT THE DEATH PENALTY SAYS ONE MP…HE SAYS CRIME IS OUT OF CONTROL…

Opposition MP Barry Padarath says, the time has come for a national discussion on the implementation of the death penalty.

The Princes Town MP was responding to what he describes as heinous crimes in recent days.

He says, drastic times call for drastic measures.

Mr. Padarath says, while Tara Ramsaroop and her infant daughter were being laid to rest, one of his constituents Laura Sankar was brutally murdered by her common law husband over the weekend. 

He says, hanging is the law and its time to put the conversation on the front burner.

Mr, Padarath expressed concern for victims and the resources available to them.

The Princes Town MP said, he believes that the backdrop of which the society finds itself today, could possibly see growing instances of domestic abuse.

NEW YOUTH PROGRAM TO GET 15 MILLION DOLLARS TO HELP AT RISK YOUTH…

Brian Lara is to lead a new youth-targeted programme of the government.

Word of this programme has come from the Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert in the parliament yesterday.

An estimated 15 million dollars is to be pumped into the initiative.

The minister says, details of the programme are being worked out.

He is assuring this will not be another Life Sport programme.

The minister made the announcement during the standing finance committee exercise.

OFFICE OF THE DPP SAYS CHARGE KILLER OF LAURA SANKAR…

The Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions has instructed that a male relative of Laura Sankar, be charged with her killing.

The 41-year-old man has been in police custody since the killing in, New Grant.

Deputy DPP Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal is reported to have given the nod, for the man to be charged.

Detectives of the homicide bureau region, three are investigating the killing of Mrs. Sankar.

A post-mortem done at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, found that she died of multiple chop wounds.

Mrs. Sankar was 34 years old.

She was killed in her home on post office trace in new grant.

Officers arrested the suspect outside the house. Who responded to the trouble call last Saturday evening.

Police officers were called to her house after she was brutally chopped, by her killer.

Police were told, Mrs. Sankar’s 16-year-old son ran to help his mother and tried to stop the attacker, but he was unsuccessful.

MALE RELATIVE IN CUSTODY AFTER CHOPPING DEATH OF LAURA SANKAR…

A woman is chopped to death, in the presence of her son at their new grant Princes Town home.

The incident occurred last Saturday, and the victim’s name is Laura Sankar.

A male relative of the 34-year-old woman is now in the custody of the police.

Ms. Sankar’s sixteen-year-old son, told the police his mother and the man were involved in an argument.

He said, he heard his mother screamed and went to check.

The teenage boy said, he saw the man chopping his mother.

Her sister, Sherry-Ann Sankar told reporters there were issues in the home and the male suspect was insecure throughout the relationship.

She is warning woman in particular to run when they see red flags

Mrs. Sankar had two children.

Her sister said, she was kind and was committed to taking care of her children and others in the family.

SUVESH MADANLAL RAMNARINE REMAINS IN THE HANDS OF ABDUCTORS…A SEARCH IS ON…

Police are still searching for a kidnapped businessman from Cunupia.

Suvesh Madanlal Ramnarine was snatched last Saturday.

Five men wearing what appeared to be police uniforms took 33 year-old Mr. Ramnarine and later demanded a ransom of 3 million dollars for his safe release.

Mr. Ramnarine lives in Warrenville Cunupia.

Reports say, Mr. Mamnarine is the owner of a foreign used car and parts dealership.

Footage circulating online show Mr. Ramnarine sitting inside a bar and being approached by the armed men, one of whom held what appeared to be an assault weapon.

The men wore masks partially covering their faces.

Almost immediately after Mr. Ramnarine was seen being escorted outside the bar.

He was bundled into a black vehicle with what appeared to be a blue light to the front, resembling police unmarked vehicles.

At about midday yesterday, Mr. Ramnarine’s Toyota Prado SUV was recovered abandoned along Corra road, off Chin Chin road in Cunupia.

The vehicle was examined by crime scene investigators for fingerprints.

Up to 6 p.m. yesterday, Mr Ramnarine remained in the hands of his kidnappers.

This is the third kidnapping of a businessman in recent weeks.

ACP WAYME MYSTAR SAYS INVESTIGATIONS INTO DEATH OF JAYDEN LALCHAN MOVING FULL SPEED AHEAD…

Police investigating the suspected suicide of 15-year-old Jayden Lalchan, are convinced there is no need for a witch-hunt.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Wayne Mystar yesterday said, the probe into the boy’s death is moving full speed ahead.

The parents and relatives of Jayden, are claiming bullying at school led to the death.

Yesterday on the morning show on i95.5fm, ACP Mystar said, several people are being reached and talked to in the matter.

He is telling of plans to re-launch an anti bullying campaign, particularly in schools.

In the parliament yesterday, Tabaquite Member of Parliament Anita Haynes-Alleyne suggested, to the education minister Dr Nyan Gadbsy Dolly to put mechanisms in place to monitor the behaviour of students, post pandemic.

Mrs. Haynes Alleyne made the suggestion as the death of the boy was raised again.

MP Haynes-Alleyne said, students spent the pandemic years at home and focus now should be placed on, re-introducing them to the classroom environment.

As she also expressed condolences to the family of young Jayden, minister Gadsby-Dolly said, there are already things in place to treat with the issue.

However, Mrs. Haynes Alleyne said, there is a need for consistent oversight.

Both Mp’s were speaking during debate on the national budget in the parliament yesterday.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING OPERATION BUSTED IN CENTRAL TRINIDAD…11 WOMEN ARE FREED AND THREE PERSONS HELD…

Missing kidnapped, abused, hostage, victim woman with hands and legs tied up with rope in emotional stress and pain, afraid, restricted, trapped, struggle, terrified, threaten, locked in a cage cell.

The Trinidad and Tobago police service has successfully rescued 11 Venezuelan women, who were allegedly victims of human trafficking.

The TTPS says, the operation on Tuesday also led to the arrest of three suspects, two males and one female, believed to be connected to a human trafficking ring operating in Cunupia, a town in central Trinidad.

Police say, after gathering intelligence on a suspected human trafficking operation and conducting extensive surveillance, a team of officers proceeded to a residence in Cunupia

During the operation, the officers found 11 persons who were allegedly being held against their will.

According to the TTPS, the central divisional task force area north and the counter trafficking unit provided crucial assistance throughout the operation.

Several items of evidential value were also seized at the scene to aid ongoing investigations.”

The TTPS adds the three suspects arrested are now in custody, as further investigations continue.

The immigration department was also contacted to assist with the women who are currently receiving support services.

The police service says, it remains resolute in its fight against the scourge of human trafficking and is committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice, while ensuring the safety and well being of victims.

POLICE BEING ASSITED BY 29 YEAR OLD MALE AFTER MURDER OF ABUSED MOTHER AND YOUNG DAUGHTER…

A 29-year-old man is now helping the police with their investigations into the killings of, a 34-year-old mother and her 14-month-old daughter in Barrackpore.

The deceased are Tara Ramsaroop and her daughter Jada Mootilal

When they were found at a house on Rigg Road yesterday their throats were slit.

It is reported the two were killed at the home of a close male relative yesterday

Ms. Ramsaroop’s sister, Jassodra Rajaram, told reporters yesterday the mother of two was brutally killed after years of being physically abused, by a close male relative.

The woman’s eight year-old son was at school at the time. 

Police have said to have, detained a man who was said to be on his way to the school to take the boy out of his class.

There was a lockdown instituted after administrators received word, which the alleged attacker was on his way.

Speaking with News Centre Five yesterday, chairman of the Penal Debe Regional Corporation Gowtam Maharaj, spoke with us about the matter.

Chairman Maharaj also said, there may be a number of factors which may have led to this incident.
