The United National Congress has filed a motion of no confidence in Speaker of the House of Representatives, Brigid Annissette George.

The Speaker is being accused of presiding over breaches to the standing orders and being totally unfair to the official Opposition in the House.

Kamla Persad Bissessar last night said the Speaker allows the breaches committed by the other side, and the UNC is struck down very often.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar says she knows the motion is likely to fail because of the number on the side of the government.

However the challenge must be mounted.

The Opposition Leader said the UNC has to fight back against those who continue to attack her party.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar said the ruling Peoples National Movement and its supporters are using strategies to silence the official Opposition in the country.

She vowed not to allow it.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar said supporters of the UNC must stand up in defense in the interest of the country’s democracy.

A motion to annul the selection process for the top CoP and his deputy has no success in the Upper House.

In his contribution yesterday one member of the independent bench said it does not breach the constitution.

Opposition Senator Wade Mark filed the motion.

However Independent Senator Anthony Viera said COVID-19 has already rocked the country and there was no need to create more havoc with this motion.

Senator Viera was also of the view that changing the process now, will be too expensive.

Meanwhile Senate Vice President Nigel De Freitas maintains the Bill is above board.

The Government Senator also stressed there was no conspiracy or hidden agenda.

The motion failed in the Senate yesterday.

Commissioner Gary Griffith last week announced he would be going up for a second term as top CoP.

A 17-year-old boy is shot and killed in Malabar.

The boy is Javaughn Alvarez.

He was from Mahogany Drive.

Last Saturday at around 4:30pm Javaughn was at his home when he was called outside.

He had a conversation with some people in a Nissan Tiida and was returning to the house when he was shot.

It is reported the shot came from one of the men who got out of the Tiida.

The man shot the teenager, got back into the car and it sped off.

Javaughn was pronounced dead at the Arima Hospital.

Police say they found 10 spent shells at the scene of the shooting.

Meanwhile, investigations continue into another murder over the weekend.

The victim is 22-year-old Miguel Alexander.

He was shot near his Pump Trace home in Laventille yesterday morning.

His body was found in a track.

It is believed he was shot several times.

Police found and seized 6 spent 9MM shells, 3 live rounds of the same ammunition and one projectile.

These 2 killings have pushed the murder toll to 182 for the year so far.

A brother and sister are charged with the murder of Kadijah Flament.

The 2 are to appear in court today.

The woman charged is 18-years-old.

Her brother is a 27-year-old scrap iron dealer.

Another female suspect is under police guard at the St. Anns Hospital.

She tested positive for COVID-19.

She is a nurse who was said to be a close friend of Ms. Flament and the legal guardian of her 8-year-old daughter.

Ms. Flament was reported missing on June 10^th.

The order to charge the 2 came from the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul.

Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan says he is confident the privatization of the port will be successful.

He says despite the economic challenges facing the country there are entities very interested in this country.

According to Minister Sinanan, the geographic location of this country has boosted its appeal.

Still, the Minister says the process will not be rushed.

The Seamen and Water Front Workers Union has been against the privatization.

However the Minister believes the support of the labour movement will be helpful in the process.

Speaking on the TV6 Morning Edition today the Minister said the International Development Bank is currently reviewing the Expression Of Interest (E.O.I).

Police probe 2 murders in separate in Curepe and south Oropouche.

In the latest incident, David Phillip was shot and killed in Curepe overnight, mere minutes before the curfew started.

He was gunned down at Ramgoolie Trace around 8:20pm.

Residents say they heard gunshots in the area and upon checking they found Mr. Phillip lying along the roadway near Caps Bar.

The police were contacted.

And investigations continue into the murder of Ryan Johnitty.

Mr. Johnitty was killed at his home in south Oropouche on Monday night.

His vehicle was also stolen.

He was found dead by his parents on Tuesday evening.

His body bore stab wounds to the back and neck.

Police say there was also a plastic bag fastened with a belt around his neck.

It is said Mr. Johnitty’s house was ransacked and valuable items were stolen.
