20 COVID related deaths and over 400 new infections

COVID-19 has claimed 20 more lives in Trinidad and Tobago.

The deceased are 5 elderly men, 11 elderly women and 4 middle aged men.

The death toll now stands at 1,967.

The month is said to be the 3rd deadliest with a tally of 271 fatalities.

Last Friday there were 28 deaths in 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health yesterday said 14 of the latest fatalities had multiple comorbidities, including diabetes, heart disease and obesity.

Four patients had 1 comorbidity, while the other 2 had none.

One of the 20 deaths occurred in Tobago bringing the toll on the island to 110.

Tobago has recorded 11 new cases.

Trinidad and Tobago now has 404 new infections taking the active caseload to 8,611.

The Ministry said 5,346 of the 5,830 patients in the Parallel Healthcare System or 91.7% percent are not fully vaccinated.

4 more murders take weekend toll to 12

Four more murders take the weekend tally to 12.

The killings occurred in Arima, Cunupia and Morvant.

In the latest incident the body of Kendall John was found at Dump Road in arima yesterday morning.

And a man identified as Jose Mariano Acosta Bella is shot dead in Arima.

Another killing, this time at Esmerald Road in Cunupia.

The victim is Darius Roberts.

And a man identified as Ronnie Samuel was gunned down at 2nd Caledonia in Morvant.

He was 44-years-old.

The Opposition leader in St. Lucia Allan Chastanet has 2 weeks to explain his absence from the Parliament to the Speaker Of the House.

Speaker Claudius Francis was on Tuesday ready to dock Mr. Chastanet’s salary.

However he has instead given the Opposition leader until the end of the month.

On Tuesday Mr. Chastanet made his first appearance in the House of Representatives since his government and party lost the election almost 4 months ago.

The United Workers Party explained after the defeat that Mr. Chastanet was on vacation.

Speaker Francis said he did receive notice for Mr. Chastenet’s absence, but he was not impressed.

The Speaker told the House he also considered stopping payments to Mr. Chastenet’s constituency.

However he reconsidered because of how that would have affected workers in the office.

Autopsy results show Rehana Jaggernauth was beaten and strangled before she drowned

Autopsy results on the body of Rehana Jaggernauth say she died from manual strangulation and drowning.

Relatives believe someone she knew lured her to her death.

An autopsy performed on Wednesday afternoon found that Ms. Jaggernauth was beaten, stabbed and strangled before being thrown into the Guayamare (Why-Mere) River, where she drowned.

The autopsy report stated that Ms. Jaggernauth was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and suffered a broken neck.

Ms. Jaggernauth’s semi-nude body was found floating in the river in Caroni, last Sunday evening, 3 days after she told relatives she was going to a nearby mini mart.

She lived at Marac Village, Moruga, with her husband and 3 children, ages 5, 3 and 2.

She was said to be spending time in Enterprise last week where she was preparing for her deceased father’s 40-days prayer service on the weekend.

Relatives were told Ms. Jaggernauth was seen walking with 2 men in Enterprise on Friday, the day she went missing.

They are appealing to anyone with information on Ms. Jaggernauth’s killing to contact the police.

PDP says it would take care of fisher folk

The Progressive Democratic Patriots says it would take care of fisher folk on the island if it gets in to office. 

Making the promise is Deputy Political Leader of the PDP Farley Agustine. 

Addressing a public meeting in Buccoo Point on Wednesday evening Mr. Agustine said for too long the Coast Guard had failed to protect fisher folk while at sea. 

The PDP’s candidate for Chief Secretary said the THA would provide fuel for rescue missions if necessary. 

Tobagonians are going to the polls on December 6th.

PNM candidate in Tobago Franka Cordner admits she made some mistakes

Officials within the People’s National Movement rally behind one of their candidates contesting the upcoming Tobago House of Assembly Election. 

For most of this week, the PNM’s candidate for Parlatuvier/ L’anse Fourmi/ Speyside, Franka Cordner has been at the center of a controversy involving recordings of her making disparaging remarks against the party, the Chief Secretary and the Tobago east MP. 

But at a political meeting in Belle Garden last evening, all platform speakers were backing Ms. Cordner who admitted she made some mistakes.

Ms. Cordner stopped short of saying she was betrayed. 

She said it was indicative of the same old challenge by women who offer themselves for service. 

Political leader Tracey Davidson Celestine blamed Ms. Cordner’s opponent Farley Agustine for the attack, adding he will go to any lengths to secure power.

Over 100 officers called out from vacation

Deputy Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob

Deputy Commissioner of Police Macdonald Jacob has called out over 100 police officers on vacation to duty.

He says they will be used to assist in ramping up patrols to deal with law and order and to enforce the public health guidelines.

Over the past few days there has been an increase in the number of COVID infections and murders.

At the TTPS media briefing yesterday DCP Jacob said steps are being taken to compensate the officers whose leave has been interrupted.

Mr. Jacob again stressed the mandate of the TTPS is to keep the people safe, and he vowed officers will not be deterred.

2 more murders in San Juan and Chaguanas

Two more murders one in San Juan and the other Chaguanas.

In the latest incident Nathaniel Phillip is the victim.

Reports say he was killed at Laventille road around 11:30 last night.

Residents say the heard several explosions and contacted the police.

When lawmen arrived they found the body of Mr. Phillip with gun shot wounds.

He died at the scene.

And an unidentified man is shot and killed in Chase Village.

That incident occurred around 4:30 yesterday afternoon.

He and another man identified as Mikey Lawrence Singh were shot at while at Connector Road.

They were both transferred to the Chaguanas Health Facility where the man died.

The other man is said to in a stable condition.

Promise of intensified police and army patrols across the country after spike in gun related murders

A promise of intensified joint police and army patrols across the country aimed at dealing with what appears to be a spike in the number of gun related murders.

Deputy Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob yesterday referred again to the spate of murders in recent days.

Speaking with Newscenter 5 he said the services stand ready.

DCP Jacob said the public should expect new regulations with the lifting of the SOE.

Several murders have occurred between last Sunday and yesterday morning.

The areas in which these killings occurred include Morvant, Tunapuna, Valencia and Diego Martin.

UNC has failed to insist its thousands of followers to get vaccinated says Health Minister

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says the Opposition, United National Congress has failed to insist its thousands of followers get vaccinated.

He made the claim yesterday in the Parliament during a motion on the adjournment brought by the opposition member for Caroni east.

In responding Minister Deyalsingh said the UNC has poured cold water on vaccinations.

MP for St. Augustine Khadeeja Ameen would try to object to the statement.

In bringing the motion MP Dr. Rishard Seechran made an appeal to the Minister.

But the Minister responded clearing his position.

The House was then adjourned to next Wednesday.
