81 YEAR OLD WOMAN DIES DAYS AFTER BEING ATTACKED AT HER HOME…

A woman dies after being beaten by her son in Chaguanas.

She is identified as Gangadaye Manichand.

She was 81-year-old.

The incident took place at coconut drive, pepper sauce village, Endeavour, around 2pm last Saturday.

Reports say Ms. Manichand was ill at her home, and her 57-year-old daughter contacted the EHS to take her to the hospital.

It is said while waiting, both mother and daughter were attacked by a man with a cutlass and a piece of pipe.

The police were notified, and the suspect said to be mentally unstable was arrested, and the weapons used seized.

The suspect appeared before a master of the high court charged with wounding with intent.

Ms. Manichand later died at hospital yesterday.

COMMISSIONER OF POLICE SAYS A SO CALLED ‘BIG FISH’ MAY BE CAUGHT DURING THE S.O.E…

Police Commissioner Erla Harewood Christopher is hoping all so called, ‘Big Fish’ can be caught during the existing state of emergency.

One week into the S.O.E police say, they have taken in 126 people.

Yesterday, the commissioner told the media police are experiencing a measure of success but she would say no more.

In a release last Saturday the TTPS said, the fight is only now beginning.

It said, 17 firearms and more than 675 rounds of assorted ammunition have been seized.

The release said, this was the result of 257 anti-crime operations conducted across ten divisions.

ATTORNEY GUNNED DOWN AFTER CHURCH…

Meanwhile, police continue their probe into the last murder of 2024.

The victim, attorney Randall Hector was gunned down shortly after he left the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Stanmore Avenue in Port of Spain.

It is said, he was killed in front of his family after worship on old year’s night.

His wife and children were with him when he was shot, but they were not hurt.

Mr. Hector was 43 years old.

He was shot twice in the chest.

Police later recovered 15 nine millimeter spent shells, at the scene of the killing.

In his last prayer before the congregation, Mr. Hector asked God to bless the people of Trinidad and Tobago and gave thanks to the lord for protection.

Mr. Hector’s final prayer was for people to find God and come to church.

It is reported he was prosecuting an alleged gang member, considered by police to be a priority offender.

MAN MURDERED AT HIS SAN JUAN HOME…

A San Juan man is murder victim number one, for the New Year.

Keegan Barbour was 39 years old.

Reports indicate that a group of gunmen forced its way into Mr. Barbour’s Laventille road, San Juan home around 1:30 yesterday morning.

Upon entering, Mr. Barbour’s home the gunmen opened fire.


Mr. Barbour ran to the back of the house where the gunmen pursued him and shot him dead.

Several spent shells were recovered.

There is no motive yet for the killing.

SIX HELD FOLLOWING MASS MURDER IN PRIZGAR LANDS…

Police have held 12 people after the killings of six, in the Port of Spain division.

Among those taken in a priority offender, who was said to be the main target of the fatal shooting outside the Besson Street police station last Saturday.

The dead man is 31-year-old, Trevor Williams.

He was the bodyguard of one of the detainees.

That killing is one of the triggers, of the state of emergency declared by the government yesterday.

UNC LEADER POURS COLD WATER ON SOE…

The leader of the opposition is not too sold on the reasons given by the government, for the declaration of a state of emergency.

Kamla Persad Bissessar says, it is long overdue but he questions the real reason being the move, announced by the government yesterday.

The escalating gun related crimes and reportedly planned reprisal killings are said to have pushed the government, into the declaration of the measure.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar said yesterday, many lives could have been saved, had the prime minister and the business community heeded her advice earlier this year.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar sought to make links between her declaration of a state of emergency in 2011, and what was told the public yesterday

She also wondered about the absence of Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley at the news conference.

COUNTRYS MURDER TOLL NOW 599 AFTER KILLING OF SOLDIER AND TWO OTHERS…

The number of murders so far this year is given as 599.

There have been three murders over the weekend, which have pushed the number upwards.

The latest victims are soldier 23-year-old Kishon Hayghew.

He was shot dead along by pass road in Arima on Saturday morning.

17 year old Jeremiah Rogers was fatally shot along Picton Street in Woodbrook .

42-year-old Wendell Simmons was shot outside a roti shop in Claxton bay last Friday evening.

In 2023 there were 577 murders recorded.

MAN STILL UNACCOUNTED AFTER COLLAPSE OF OIL RIG….THE SEARCH IS ON FOR PETE PHILLIPS…

Investigations are ongoing following the accident at a privately owned rig located within the heritage offshore east field.

An unaccounted for employee has been identified at Pete Phillips

The incident happened on rig 110 operated by Well Services Company Limited, in the east field at Soldado, Trinmar at around 3:09 am yesterday.

In a statement Well Services says, 75 persons were on the rig at the time.

The release also states that one person was injured, but he has been treated and was listed in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, the hunter’s search and rescue team led by captain Vallence Rhambarth confirms they are involved in the search for Mr. Phillips.

Speaking on the take two programs on i95.5fm yesterday Mr. Rambarath said, his team is working with the relevant personnel.

Mr. Rambarath also spoke of what happened when his team got the call.

All other personnel have been safely evacuated from the rig.

Company officials say, they were are in contact with the family of the missing individual and providing all necessary support and assistance in what it refers to as this period of uncertainty.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries confirms that an investigation has been launched into the collapse of the drilling rig.

An official advisory from the ministry of energy states, it had received reports of the incident, and was working closely with both well services and heritage petroleum company limited, to determine what had happened and why.

Minister of energy Stuart Young says, he received his first briefing at around 3:30 a.m.

Minister young yesterday visited the Trinmar Marine base in Point Fortin, to receive in-person briefs on the management of the incident. The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries will be appointing a team to conduct a detailed investigation of the incident, and to prepare and submit a comprehensive report of the findings of the investigation

PRIME MINISTER WANT PROBE OF FIRE THAT CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A MINISTER…

The prime minister wants to know more about the response to the fire, which claimed the lives of his minister and two of her children.

As he continues to mourn minister Lisa Morris Julian’s death, and those of her children Dr. Keith Rowley has instructed that a committee be formed to investigate the circumstances.

The minister in the ministry of education, and her children Xianne and Jesiah Julian perished in a blaze at their home in the borough of Arima on Monday this week.

The fire destroyed the house as well.

There have been questions surrounding the response of the fire service.

Prime Minister Keith Rowley yesterday said, there is need for answers.

On Monday even as the fire raged the fire service said, there was need for more water but this has been denied by the public utilities minister.

Dr. Rowley told reporters yesterday when he got to the scene of the deadly fire he asked for senior officers of the fire service.

The prime minister again said, there has been conflicting information and there has to be clarity.

The prime minister also revealed the cabinet has agreed to a state assisted funeral for Mrs. Morris Julian.

Misses Morris Julian was the member of parliament for D’abadie / Omeara.

14 YEAR OLD ZAHEER SAMUEL RELASED BY ABDUCTORS…

Police say, fourteen-year-old kidnap victim Zaheer Samuel has been found.

Samuel was kidnapped while at his parents’ business, S&S Plant and Garden Shop, in St. Augustine, early yesterday.

At 5.30 am on Wednesday, the teen was helping his parents set out plants and other items as they prepared to open their shop when a brown wagon, pulled up and two men came out and grabbed Samuel.

They then bundled him into the car and drove off.

The TTPS had been searching for him since then, with his father, William Samuel, appealing to the abductors to release his son.

However, a senior TTPS official confirmed that Zaheer had been found safe.

No other information, including where he was found and his physical condition, was revealed.
