Former two-term Attorney General John Jeremie tells, the people of this country to vote for the United National Congress.

In a surprise more last evening, Mr. Jeremie endorsed the UNC and its political leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar

At a meeting of the UNC in penal, Mr. Jeremie said his move might have consequence.

Mr. Jeremie feels the country is in crisis.

He had two questions for the audience.

Mr. Jeremie then gave his endorsement.

John Jeremie served, two terms as Attorney General under two administrations of the Peoples National Movement.

AMERIJET WAREHOUSE FIRE IN PIARCO UNDER CONTROL SAYS AIRPORTS AUTHORITY…

Flight operations at the Piarco International Airport, as fire engulfs a warehouse.

The Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago confirms, that a fire occurred at the Amerijet warehouse facility, at the south terminal early this morning.

It says, in accordance with airport emergency response protocols, the Piarco Fire Station responded immediately and was supported by, units from the Arima Fire Station.

The authority says, the fire is now under control.

It says, flight operations will resume as soon as there is clearance from the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service and the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority.

Passengers should liaise with their airlines, since flights may be delayed as a result of the runway closure.

Subsequent releases will be issued to give updates.

The authority says, it will work with stakeholders to ensure the safe and secure resumption of flight operations at, the Piarco International Airport.

THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS WRITE SEA EXAM…

Secondary Entrance Assessment begins at schools across the country.

It is estimated that about 18 thousand standard five students are writing the examination this morning.

A number of security measures have been put in place by the authorities to ensure a smooth exam process.

All primary schools and some select secondary schools were closed yesterday for security checks.

Education Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby Dolly has extended her best wishes via facebook.

Both the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission and the Water and Sewerage Authority, have set up hotlines to treat with any utility emergencies that can affect the process.

In extending the best to the young boys and girls Chairman of the National Council of Parent Teachers Association Walter Stewart recalled that this group would have had online schooling due to the pandemic.

He thanked the teachers for the roles they played.

Mr. Stewart encouraged the students and noted that the parents are also to be commended.

Meanwhile a total of 1,006 students—551 boys and 455 girls—have been registered to sit the exam in Tobago, including 34 private candidates.

These students will write the examination across 40 designated centers on the island.

DRAGON GAS DEAL DEALT A BLOW AS OFAC LICENCE IS REVOKED…

This country’s bid to monetize Venezuelan gas suffers a blow as the Donald Trump administration revokes the license, which allows it.

However Prime Minister Stuart Young says, dragon gas deal is not dead.

The office of foreign assets control of the U.S department of the treasury, commonly called OFAC, administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions, based on U.S foreign policy and national security goals.

Countries must acquire approval, which allows for economic relationships with regimes under U.S sanction.

Trinidad and Tobago received an OFAC license to extract gas from the dragon fields, in Venezuela in January 2023.

Prime minister Young told the media yesterday the move by the United States was no surprise.

The dragon gas field is situated on the, Venezuelan side of the northwestern maritime border with Trinidad. 

It is estimated to hold up to 4.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserve.

Meanwhile, the chief secretary of the Tobago house of assembly responds to the revocation of the OFAC licenses calling it unfortunate.

Farley Augustine also laments the way in which other countries can determine the future of, Trinidad and Tobago and smaller territories.

Blaming the people’s national movement for the state of the economy, Mr. Augustine said, diversification is needed now more than ever.

He advances a suggestion of his own.

KEY STAKEHOLDERS ENDORSE A SANDALS TOBAGO DEVELOPMENT…

A positive outcome of talks with Sandals Resorts International, the entity is considering returning to Tobago to set up operations.

Prime Minister Stuart young and several stakeholders including Chief Secretary Farley Augustine met with Adam Stewart of the Sandals brand yesterday.

Prime Minister Young said, all in attendance took a resolution.

The head of the cabinet said, he is pleased and intends to work for a positive outcome.

The prime minister told Tobagonians, if they grab the opportunity with both hands, central government would do everything to make it happen.

A BID TO BRING SANDALS INTEREST BACK TO TOBAGO TODAY…

Attempts will be made by stakeholders in Tobago to again get interests from Sandals owners, to set up a Sandals Resort on the island.

There is a promise to the people of Tobago from Prime Minister Stuart Young, that he will do all in his power to ensure a return of the Sandals interest, which failed several years ago.

Today, Prime Minister Young, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine and other stakeholders will meet with executive chairman of Sandals and beaches resorts, Adam Stewart.

Prime Minister Young made the announcement at Thursday’s post cabinet news conference.

It followed a call by, former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, last month for the Chief Secretary and Tobago stakeholders, to seek to convince the Sandals executive chairman to return to Tobago.

Addressing a rally of the People’s National Movement, at the Signal Hill Secondary School on Sunday evening, Prime Minister Young promised the same level of delivery to Tobago as happened under his predecessor.

Noting that the new airport terminal is only part of the plan, he also promised jobs for Tobagonians once the deal with Sandals is successful.

The prime minister then asked supporters for permission to negotiate.

On the weekend Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, again sought to explain the reason for the Sandals failure.

Mr. Augustine was addressing a political meeting of his Tobago People’s Party.

PRIME MINISTER STUART YOUNG TO SPEAK ON MEETING WITH US SECRETARY OF STATE LATER TODAY…

Prime Minister Stuart Young will later today, give details of his talks with us Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in Jamaica

On the Office of the Prime Minister’s Facebook page yesterday, the talks with described as productive.

The statement did not give specifics, but said the talks focused on several issues of mutual interest, including national security, trade and energy.

Further it said the discussions were productive, with both nations pledging to deepen ties.

On the U.S. department of state’s website, the meeting between the Secretary of State and Prime Minister Young was noted.

The website said, the two discussed the Donald Trump administration’s decision to name, a dangerous Venezuelan gang as a foreign terrorist organization.

Secretary Rubio is said, to have encouraged Prime Miniser Young to join the U.S. and other Caribbean democracies in limiting malign influence in the region.

The department said, Secretary Rubio spoke with Prime Minister Young and two other Caricom leaders…Mia Mottley of Barbados and Jamaica’s Andrew Holness.

ELECTION OBSERVERS ARE INVITED BY GOVERNMENT…

Three groups of election observers are invited by government, for the April 28th general elections.

Prime Minister Stuart Young made the announcement at his first post cabinet meeting yesterday.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar had issued a call for, international observers.

However, the prime minister recalled her difficulty with Caricom, sending anyone to participate.

The head of the cabinet noted, that he had received a letter from the United National Congress, his first since taking office. 

However, he said work was underway on inviting observers even before, the correspondence arrived.

Mr. Young recalled what he described as the hard lessons of the past.

ARTHUR BARRINGTON NOW HEADS THE STRATEGIC SERVICES AGENCY…

A new director is set to take up the helm of the SSA.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Stuart Young declared that Arthur Barrington would now oversee the organization.

The prime minister made the announcement, while responding to questioning, on the where about of acting SSA director ambassador brig. Phillip spencer.

On July 3rd 2024, former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley told the parliament that an audit into the SSA found disturbing practices of nepotism and opportunism.

Dr. Rowley said, several family members and associates of a particular church were found to have been surreptitiously employed in this agency.

He also revealed that such persons belonged to a cult which was arming itself while preaching a doctrine for trained military and paramilitary personnel with a religious calling, to replace the country’s political leadership. 

In March 2024, twenty-eight employees of the SSA, including its director ret major roger best, were fired.

TODAY WILL SEE THE SWEARING IN OF NEW PRIME MINISTER STUART YOUNG…

The country sees the swearing in of a new Prime Minister today.

Stuart Young will take the oath of office at ten o’clock this morning.

Dr. Keith Rowley has resigned, and has handed over the reigns of the country’s leadership to energy minister Stuart Young.

Fifty-year-old Mr. Young will take the oath of office from president of the Republic Christine Kangaloo at ten o’clock this morning.

The event will take place at the president’s house.

A general election is constitutionally due this year and there is speculation as to the date.


Last evening at the presentation of prospective candidates minister Young, promised visionary leadership and representation of all the people.

At Woodford Square in Port of Spain, the man to become Prime Minister today warned the people against the opposition United National Congress.

He said, that party must never see the corridors of power again.

The senior counsel recalled losing every brief he had for the state when the UNC took over.

Mr. Young assured that his fight for the people continues, as he assumes office.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Kamla Persad Bissessar will not be attending the swearing in ceremony today.

Mrs. Persad Bissessar has been criticizing and challenging the process, being used to appoint a new prime minister.

She said, yesterday she would wait further information from President Christine Kangaloo, on the specific sub-clause of section 76 of the constitution used for the appointment of Mr. Young.

The United National Congress, has been threatening to take the matter to court.

This has been dismissed by the government, and the prime minister.
