49 VENEZUELAN NATIONALS HELD BY OFFICIALS FOR ILLEGAL ENTRY…

Forty-nine Venezuelans have been held for illegal entry into Trinidad and Tobago.

The group was held between eleven pm on Saturday and six a.m. yesterday, during an operation conducted by the immigration investigations unit, immigration division, IATF and CID task force.

The 49 Venezuelans comprised 41 females and eight males.

Police officers are said, to have conducted searches at multiple locations across the central division.

Police say, the Venezuelans are to be transferred to the immigration detention centre in Aripo for further processing.

21 YEAR OLD WOMAN & 17 YEAR OLD MALE AMONG THREE ALLEGED GANG MEMBERS SHOT DEAD BY POLICE…

One woman and a teenager are among three people shot and killed by police.

Police say, the three were members of the resistance gang.

They died after a reported shootout, with police during the early hours of yesterday.

The trio has been identified as Amir Bissoon alias “PA”, Jodi Barath alias “Gia and Joseph Ramjit.

Gia was 21 years old and the mother of one.

Amir “pa” Bissoon was 17 year old.

Reports say, they were shot along the Caroni Savannah road in the vicinity of the cremation site at around 4:40am.

Newscentre five understands the officers were on patrol, proceeding in an easterly direction when information was received about a white Nissan Almera.

The TTPS says, officers saw the vehicle heading east along the Caroni Savannah road at high speed.

The officers attempted to stop the car, but it collided with the marked police vehicle.

Police say, they were shot at and two officers responded.

The three suspects were hit.

In the driver’s seat of the white Nissan Almera was Mr. Bissoon a known member of the resistance gang.

Ms. Barath was seated in the front passenger seat.

In the left rear passenger seat was Mr. Ramjit, also affiliated with the resistance gang.

One black pistol was reportedly seen on the driver’s side, of the white Nissan Almera.

All three were conveyed to the Eric Williams medical sciences complex and were pronounced dead on arrival.

Dr. Iana Parisienne-James is Tobago’s latest shooting victim.

The young doctor was shot last evening outside a supermarket in Argyle.

This latest gun attack came hours after crime talks led by the Chief Secretary, Farley Augustine.

NO WATER FOR 500 THOUSAND THIS WEEKEND AS THE CARONI WATER TREATMENT PLANT IS SHUT DOWN…

Caroni plant shut down from today, will see more than 500,000 people either without pipe-borne water or a reduced supply.

The Water and Sewerage Authority says, this is as a result of a planned shut down at Caroni water treatment plant.

The shutdown is to facilitate maintenance and upgrades.

It becomes effective from noon today.

POLICE IDENTIFY BODY IN CUNUPIA AS TAXI DRIVER HESSTON KHELAWAN…

The body found in Cunupia has been positively identified.

It is that of Hesston Khelawan.

Mr. Khelawan was 34 years old.

He was a taxi driver.

Relatives say, Mr. Khelawan was preparing to migrate.

Reports say, he told his wife he was afraid of the worsening crime situation, and did not want himself or anyone he loved to become a victim.

Mr. Khelawan, who was attached to the Piarco Airport Taxi Cooperative Society Limited, as a driver for the last two years, secured a job last Saturday night.

To take someone from Piarco International Airport, to Brix Hotel in St. Ann’s.

This job was done safely in his seven-seater Sirena taxi, but he never made it back home.

According to reports, Mr.Khelawan then called his wife and informed her that he would be heading home.

He never made it, to his promised location.

On Saturday night, Mr. Khelawan’s body was discovered lying in the grass along Warren Road, Cunupia.

EBC TO ASK RETURNING OFFICERS FOR POLITICAL PREFERENCE…

The chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission is telling of a decision to ask returning officers to declare their political affiliations.

Chairman Mark Ramkerrysingh said, yesterday the EBC sought external legal advice from a senior counsel who provided an opinion.

At a journalism workshop Mr. Ramkerrysingh presented on the role of the EBC in elections.

In response to a question he said, a returning officer is removed if the EBC discovers, they are an activist.

He said, the EBC selects 41 returning officers.

Questioned on steps to ensure transparency of returning officers and election staff.

Mr. Ramkerrysingh said, the EBC normally does not accept returning officers who are party activists.

He noted people have a right to political affiliations.

The senior counsel is reported to have advised, that the EBC can make this request, and these would be valid questions.

He said, the disclosing of party allegiance and membership would only apply to the, 41 returning officers and not to all 16,000 people who work for elections.

GUNMEN KILL’S WOMAN…

A gun attack on Victoria Guerra in Argyle.

Known as Dolly Boss, gunmen fatally shot the woman

She was shot yesterday afternoon in Argyle.

She later died while being treated at the Roxborough Hospital.

Ms. Guerra is now the 19th murder victim on the island so far this year.

It is reported Ms. Guerra was a member of the seven gang.

Police say, Ms. Guerra was on the street heading to the Argyle waterfall when a car pulled up and a group of men exited

The men fired shots at the woman and the man she was with

Both were taken to the Roxborough hospital.

Ms. Guerra, who was under police guard at the hospital, when she died.

She becomes the 19th murder victim for the year in Tobago.

FOUR MURDERS RECORDED OVERNIGHT AND A WOMAN IS KILLED IN TOBAGO…

It is now confirmed four men have been shot dead over night.

One in cocorite, two in arima, and the other in cunupia.

In the latest incident, the victim has been identified as Kenneth Mc Quilkin.

Reports say, the incident took palce at Wilson Lane Cunupia, around 10:30 last night.

Reports say, Mr. Mc Quilkin was seated in a white Toyota Corolla when he was approached by a man, arm with a gun who fired shots at him.

The gunman quickly escaped.

The police and the dmo arrived and made the pronouncement

Mr Mc Quilkin died at scene.

In Cocorite the victim is idnetified as Daniel Morris.

Reports say, the incident took place at Phase One Extension Powder Magazine around 9:20 last night.

Newscentre five understands, mr morris was at an abandonded structure when he was fatally shot.

Earlier gunmen opened fire on three men in Arima.

The dead men have been identfied as, Emerson Boucher and Micheal De Gazon.

Reports say, the incident took place at Samaroo Village around 8:42 last night.

We are told the men were in the company of another man, when men armed with high powered rifles opened fire on the group.

The three men were shot and taken to hospital, where Mr. Boucher and Mr. Micheal De Gazon were pronounced dead on arrival.

The other man was listed in a stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.

MORE AGGRESSION TOWARDS ILLEGAL GUNS…

Now in his second week on the job, the minister responsible for the police service is talking tough.

Keith Scotland tells the nation, there will be a robust approach to crime and the fight will be multi-faceted.

The senior counsel says, the first step is building trust in the police service, and the second is getting illegal weapons off the streets.

He wants the police to be more aggressive when it comes to illegal guns.

Minister Scotland was appointed almost two weeks ago.

TIME TO DISMANTLE TTHE GANGS & DRUG BLOCKS IN TOBAGO…

The head of the Tobago Division of the TTPS is pledging to dismantle all gangs and drug blocks on the island.

Tobago has recorded 18 murders for the year so far already surpassing the 2023 toll.

Yesterday, senior superintendent of the Tobago division Rodhill Kirk said, the killings are mostly gang related and the work has begun to take on the criminal elements.

Senior Superintendent Kirk, admitted that gang members in Tobago are linking with those in Trinidad.

However, he pledges that gang warfare will not be allowed to take hold on the sister isle.

The senior officer also told of a large number of drug blocks popping up in many communities.

He is adamant, they will be shut down.

Speaking on TV’6 morning edition programme yesterday Senior Sup. Kirk said, when officers go to the drug blocks persons they usually have in their possession marijuana within the legal limit.

However, he said those blocks would be cleaned up beginning immediately.
