The Opposition, United National Congress is again making a connection between the lifting of the State Of Emergency and the upcoming THA poll.

Opposition leader Kamla Persad Bissessar says the Prime Minister and his party are in trouble, hence the decision to remove the SOE.

At the Monday night forum of her United National Congress, Mrs. Persad Bissessar said it is clear the Peoples National Movement is in trouble in Tobago.

Tomorrow the Parliament will lift the SOE which was declared in May this year.

2 days after being reported missing Rehanna Jaggernauth’s body found floating in river

Two days after she was reported missing, Rehanna Jaggernauth’s body was found floating in the Why-Mere River in Caroni.

Thirty-three-year-old Ms. Jaggernauth was reported missing last Friday.

Yesterday relatives positively identified her body.

Ms. Jaggernauth was from Marac Village, Moruga.

Relatives say the mother of 4 was spending time in Enterprise last week and was preparing for a 40 day prayer service for her deceased father.

They say she walked out the road and never returned.

A missing persons report was filed at the Chaguanas Police Station.

Last Sunday evening a group of men saw the corpse floating in the river.

Police probe 2 murders in Tunapuna and Laventille

Two men, in separate situations, are shot dead in Tunapuna and Laventille.

In Tunapuna, Randy Phillip was shot at 1st Trace Maingot Road around 10:50 last night.

Newscenter 5 understands men armed with high-powered rifles stormed Mr. Phillip’s home and opened fire.

Mr. Phillip and another man identified as Hazim Habibodeen were hit several times.

They were rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where Mr. Phillip died.

Mr. Habibodeen remains warded in a critical condition.

Members of the Regiment went into the area to ensure law and order was maintained.

And Jabari Phillip is shot dead in Morvant.

That incident took place at Pelican Extension around 6 o’clock last evening.

Residents say they heard gunshots in the area and contacted the police.

It is said when officers arrived at the scene they found 3 men with gunshot wounds.

They were rushed to hospital where Mr. Phillip died on arrival.

Man killed in a freak accident in Tarouba

A freak accident claims the life of a man in Tarouba.

He is identified as Marlon Douglas.

Mr. Douglas was 49-years-old.

Reports say Mr. Douglas was repairing his vehicle parked on a hill when another vehicle rolled down the hill pushing his forward.

He was dragged several feet and later pinned between the vehicles

Passers by noticed the incident and rushed to the man assistance.

They removed the vehicles but the man sustained several injuries.

The Emergency Health Services was called to the scene.

Mr. Douglas died at the scene.

A neuroscientist says there is a need and a way for frontline COVID-19 workers to improve their sleep and energy levels.

Founder and Director of Neuroscience Start Up Allegori, Kheston Walkins says the pandemic has been taking a toll on persons directly treating with it.

His company has launched a campaign that aims to recover for frontline workers 50,000 hours of extra sleep.

Speaking with Newscenter 5 he said its starts with free sign up on the company’s website.

Mr. Walkins said the benefits would be felt nationally as the country recovers from the pandemic.

He said it is important that not only the government but the Private Sector also provide support for workers during this unprecedented time.

Minister of Health says front line workers are burnt out

The Minister of Health says the front line workers at hospitals are burnt out by the number coronavirus cases they are seeing and treating.

Terrence Deyalsingh says he met with some doctors and nurses on Saturday morning and it is clear they are under pressure.

The Minister on Saturday said there are also too many people treating themselves at home, which he said create more problems.

Minister Deyalsingh also announced that the vaccination program is now stalled.

8 additional COVID related deaths and over 340 new infections

Eight more people have died of the coronavirus.

The number of deaths in the country connected to the pandemic now stands at 1,858.

In the month of November there have been 162 deaths.

The Health Ministry says it has also recorded 345 new positive cases.

There are now 6,831 active cases of the virus.

Four hundred and twenty-three patients are in hospital care and 5,980 are in home isolation.

Eighty-three patients are in step down facilities with an additional 89 in State quarantine facilities.

The number of fully vaccinated people in the country stands at 588,501.

Body of a woman is discovered in a river in central Trinidad

The body of a woman is found in a river in central Trinidad.

She is yet to be identified

The find was made at the Guayamar River in Caroni around 5 o’clock last evening.

Newscenter 5 understands a passerby saw the semi nude body lying face down in the river and contacted the police.

Officers arrived on the scene

The woman’s remains were ordered removed and autopsy is expected.

Investigations are ongoing.

A plea to Tobagonians to respect outcome of election

A plea to Tobagonians to respect the outcome of the December 6th THA Election, whatever the outcome. 

Addressing an inter faith service of the Progressive Democratic Patriots on Sunday, Moravian Minister Reverend Belinda Manswell, urged voters to do their civic duty. 

She advised voters to familiarize themselves with the respective manifestos before casting their vote. 

And Deputy Political Leader of the PDP Farley Agustine took time to pray even for his political opponents. 

At least 43 candidates spanning at least 3 political parties are expected to file their nomination papers with the respective returning officers by 3pm today.

It’s Nomination Day in Tobago

It’s nomination day for the December 6th Tobago House of Assembly Election.

Political parties and their prospective candidates are to file the necessary nomination papers with the Elections and Boundaries Commission from this morning.

Five parties are expected to contest the election.

The parties are the ruling Peoples National Movement, the Progressive Democratic Patriots and the Innovative Democratic Alliance.

Also the Unity of The People and the Class Action Reform Movement are in the race.

In January this year Tobagonians went to the polls and returned a tie result.

The PNM won 6 electoral districts and the PDP won 6 as well.

The House of Assembly has since been in a deadlock, unable to hold sittings.

In the National Parliament, approval was given for an increase in the number of districts.

There are now 15 districts being contested.
