The Opposition, United National Congress says it is not surprised by the Cabinet reshuffle but it is also not impressed.

In a release, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar says it is a naked attempt by the Prime Minister to distract from what she calls scandals, which have derailed his already collapsing government. 

According to Mrs. Persad Bissessar, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and his entire Cabinet should resign.

She says this reshuffle is a symbol of an embattled Prime Minister drowning in his own lies and evident misdeeds. 

She adds this desperate action by Dr. Rowley will not deceive the citizens.

A Cabinet reshuffle sees the removal of Faris Al Rawi as the country’s Attorney General.

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has given the portfolio to leading Senior Counsel Reginald Amour.

He took his oath at the President’s House yesterday.

Mr. Amour will be made a Senator.

And Senator Nigel Defreitas has resigned as Vice President of the Senate and has the portfolio of Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture Land and Fisheries.

Dr. Muhammed Ibrahim has been appointed Vice President of the Senate.

Meanwhile Mr. Al-Rawi issued a release saying it is with great excitement and pleasure that he accepts his new portfolio.

He says the Ministry of Local Government literally touches the lives of every citi­zen of Trinidad and Tobago in the places that they live, work, traverse and enjoy.

He adds that he has been assigned the tremendous responsibility of driving one of the major planks of government focus by ensuring the delivery of meaningful Local Government reform to ensure the betterment of the lives of the people.

In his statement, Mr. Al-Rawi thanks the Prime Minister for allowing him the privilege of leading the “radical reforms” in the Office of the Attorney General that has witnessed, among several things, the transformation of the entire judicial system.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service gets 1,000 new body cams.

Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds made the announcement in the Senate yesterday.

Independent Senator Paul Richards probed him about how many more were needed to outfit the entire service.

Minister Hinds assured this was the goal.

They were speaking during the “Questions For Oral Answer” segment of yesterday’s Senate sitting.

A man who was found tied up and beaten at the side of the road in Toco earlier this month has died.

CEPEP workers found Atiba Glasgow on March 2^nd.

Reports say he died at around 12:55 Monday morning.

Newscenter 5 understands Mr. Glasgow was found in a semi-conscious state and taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where he was warded at the Intensive Care Unit up to the time of his death.

His autopsy is expected to be done today.

An overnight shooting in Caroni leaves one man dead and 2 others injured.

The dead is identified as Kerien Beckles.

Sixteen-year-old Micah Beckles and 20-year-old Gabriel Joseph remains warded at hospital in a critical condition.

The trio was shot at Rabindradath Trace, Kelly Village.

They were taken to hospital where 20-year-old Mr. Beckles died during the early hours of this morning.

Police say over 50 spent shells were found at the scene.

The Finance Minister says his government has no intention of devaluing the Trinidad and Tobago dollar.

Responding to a question posed by Opposition Senator Wade Mark yesterday, Minister Colm Imbert said there is absolutely no reason to devalue the currency.

He said the country has no situations, which would warrant devaluation.

Minister Imbert said the entire report from the International Monetary Fund should be read.

He believes the question from the Senator exposes what the United National Congress would do if elected to office.

One hundred and fifty thousand dollars bail for a man charged with engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of a child.

The 40-year-old man is alleged to have committed the crime on July 15^th last year.

The child was then 5-years-old.

Police arrested the man on February 26^th this year.

He has to return to court on March 28^th.

The country has recorded 2 COVID-19 related deaths and 218 new cases.

Two elderly men are the fatalities.

One of them had Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and the other had no known pre-existing conditions.

Their deaths bring tally 3,686.

For the month of March there have been 58 deaths.

With the 218 new cases the number of active cases now has been put at 13,953.

Former Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith has also written to the DPP pointing fingers at Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.

He is accusing him of trying to influence the outcome of police investigations.

On the Tony and Dale Morning Show yesterday Mr. Griffith said when he was commissioner, he resisted such attempts, hence the rift between them.

He was responding to an express article that quotes Dr. Rowley as saying Mr. Griffith was a disappointment as commissioner.

Dr. Rowley also claimed Mr. Griffith constantly disrespected the then National Security Minister Stuart Young.

According to the article, Dr. Rowley said he had to meet with the then commissioner about the concern.

Mr. Griffith believes the Prime Minister is jealous of his popularity and his political potential.

Mr. Griffith hinted at heading a new political party and possibly contesting future elections.

He said from the actions of the Prime Minister it is clear he is not fit to lead the country.
