DCP SUZETTE MARTIN UNDER INVESTIGATION….

Commissioner of Police Allistair Guevarro confirms his deputy, Suzette Martin is being investigated.

At his maiden news conference yesterday, commissioner Guevarro said, the allegations against DCP Martin involves the 2022 arrest of a firearms, dealer and trainer in Barbados.

According to the TTPS, the investigation into DCP Martin began after, Professional Standards Bureau officers conducted an audit at the business of an Aranguez firearms dealer.

Asked to detail the allegations against DCP Martin, commissioner Guevarro stressed that the investigation remains active.

He said, DCP Martin remains in her position as Deputy Commissioner and is not currently suspended.

Quizzed on whether keeping her in the post could affect the integrity of the investigation, the top cop expressed confidence in the team led by ACP Curt Simon.

The Brent Thomas audit, is alleged to have discovered several irregularities, which lead to the search of the dealer’s home, where explosive devices and prohibited firearms were discovered.

In April 2023, high court judge Devindra Rampersad ruled that Mr. Thomas’ arrest carried out by officers led by DCP Martin amounted to an “abduction.”

The then Attorney General Reginald Armour later issued an apology to, Barbadian authorities.

The commissioner assured the assembled media and the public, that every aspect of the inquiry would be conducted in full compliance with established police procedures.

A MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH THE MURDER OF 21 YEAR OLD SAVANNA DYER.

A man has been charged with the murder of 21-year-old Savanna Dyer.

Her body was found in Carlsen Field, one day after she was last seen outside a bar.

Twenty-one year old security officer Kibwe Wells was charged over the weekend, after the deputy director of public prosecutions Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal gave the instruction.

Mr. Wells is from Quarry Street East Dry River Port of Spain.

He was charged by officers of the region, three-homicide bureau and is expected to appear in the south court b, San Fernando.

A second man was also detained last week, but he has not yet been charged and remains at the St. Anns hospital where he was taken after he surrendered to police at the homicide bureau in Port of Spain.

The first suspect was detained around 11 p.m.

On June 16th at his home on quarry street

Ms. Dyer was from river estate Diego Martin.

TTUTA AND THE EDUCATION MINISTRY VERY CONCERNED ABOUT BREACH OF SECURITY AT A SCHOOL IN ARIMA.

A thorough investigation has started into the reported intrusion at the Santa Rosa Government Primary School in Arima.

The incident is said to have occurred on June 6th.

The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association and the education ministry are very concerned.

TTUA wants heightened security at all schools.

President Martin Lum Kin said yesterday, the unidentified man entered the school premises claiming to be a teacher.

Mr. Lum Kin also confirmed, the impostor entered through a long existing broken fence earlier this month.

The TTUTA head said, staff members and students have been receiving counseling.

Meanwhile, president of the national council of parent teacher associations Walter Stewart, describes what has reportedly taken place as a multi layered breach.

Mr. Stewart also supports immediate heightened security at all schools.

In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry of education confirmed reports of the incident involving “an unidentified individual on the compound.

The ministry stated that the school’s principal and staff  responded promptly, and acted in accordance with established safety procedures.

The ministry added that the TTPS has launched an active investigation, and that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and other agencies.

In response to the breach, the ministry has initiated a review of the school’s existing security protocols.

CONTROL YOUR CHILDREN OR WE WILL TOUGH TALK FROM POLICE COMMISSIONER ALISTER GUEVARRO….

Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro has vowed to tackle school violence, warning parents to “control” their children.

Yesterday, officially took the reigns of the police service by Minister of Homeland Security, Roger Alexander.

After receiving the official appointment, commissioner Guevarro made a clarion call and issued a warning to all parents.

He referred to a recent article in which, a father said he joined the police service for his young son.

Commissioner Guevarro also hailed the leadership of DCP Junior Benjamin, who was acting as head of the service.

Mr. Guevarro said, it was always his dream to become a Commissioner of Police

A HIGH COURT JUDGE CALLS FOR ANSWERS FROM THE DPP ON THE STATUS OF THE DANA SEETAHAL MURDER TRIAL.

The director of public prosecutions is given seven days, to explain what’s next for the murder case related to Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal.

Last Friday, in the matter involving one of the murder accused Earl Richards.

Justice Carol Gobin ordered, that the DPP provide a status report on the case.

He is to indicate whether an indictment is intended to be filed and, if so, by what date and also whether a decision has been made to discontinue the matter.

An order was also made compelling the DPP to provide Mr. Richards with the reason for the undue delay, in filing the indictment to begin criminal proceedings.

Should these not be complied with the court should be informed.

The case was adjourned to September 15th.

Mr. Richards was represented by attorneys Criston Williams and Aaron Lewis.

He was charged with Ms. Seetahal’s murder back in 2015, and the preliminary enquiry completed in 2020.

There has been no start of a trial in the last four years.

Mr richards says, the delay has caused significant setback and also violated his rights.

STATE IS TO REIMBURSE AUDITOR GENERAL JAIWANTEE RAMDASS…

The state is to reimburse auditor general Jaiwantee Ramdass for legal fees she paid, when she challenged the previous finance minister.

The matter was over a tribunal, then minister Colm Imbert, set up to investigate her office pursuant to a billion dollar understatement, in the country’s 2023 finances.

Yesterday during the sitting of the standing finance committee, the state sought 2 million dollars to finance this reimbursement.

The finance minister Davendranath Tancoo listed the payment to the auditor general, among the bid for more money.

Former Prime Minister Stuart Young, questioned why this money was coming from the auditor general’s offers.

The minister repeated his statement on the situation.

Then the chairman of the proceedings Speaker of the House Jagdeo Singh intervened. The exchanges came ahead of tomorrow’s mid-year budget review

TTPS VOW TO FIND THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE KILLING OF 20 YEAR OLD SAVANNAH DYER…

ACP Wayne Mystar says, the police service plans to intensify its presence in central Trinidad, following the murder of a young woman.

Savannah Dyer’s body was found in the Carlsen Field area last Saturday.

According to ACP Mystar the plan to beef up a presence in central, is just one aspect of trying to curb the crime situation.

Last Saturday, the lifeless body of miss dyer was discovered by a motorist at the side of the roadway in Carlsen Field.

Miss Dyer’s body was found, mere hours after she made a social media post.

Speaking via voice note to i95.5fm last Saturday ACP Mystar said, justice would be served as police actions will intensify.

Ms. Dyer’s remains were found in Carlsen Field, near the praedial larceny unit’s office around 7:30am last Saturday.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO SCHOOL FIGHT IN COUVA…

The police service vows to take swift action in connection with the brutal assault, of a girl outside the Holy Faith Convent in Couva.

In a video clip circulating on social media, a group of girls attached to another school are seen kicking, cuffing, stamping and beating a female pupil outside the Holy Faith Convent compound.

Head of the Southern Division, Wayne Mystar says, those involved in this assault will be held and brought to account.

Contacted by newscentre five, the mother of the victim said her child remains warded at hospital nursing injuries to her head and face.

The woman who gave her name only as, Karina insisted that this type of action must not be allowed in the school and even society.

She described the situation as heart breaking, saying her child was an innocent bystander when she was attacked.

She said her daughter could have been killed.

Karina also agreed with the prime minister who said, drastic action must follow this type of behaviour.

In a voice clip now circulating on social media, one girl who purported to have been involved in the fight suggested that, the victim was a bystander who was not involved when the fracas started. 

ACP Mystar, is promising that justice will be served. 

Minister of Education Dr. Michael Dowlath yesterday, said his ministry has started its own probe into the incident, and is treating the matter very seriously, especially with this kind of violence.

Mr. Dowlath emphasized the importance of understanding whether the incident occurred within or outside school jurisdiction, and noted all relevant schools will be scrutinized as the ministry seeks to uncover the causes of the conflict.

HEAVY RAIN CAUSE FLOODING IN MANY PARTS OF THE COUNTRY … THE RIVERINE FLOOD ALERT MOVES TO ORANGE

Reports of floods following heavy rains overnight.

The yellow level weather alert has changed, the Rural Development and Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen is this morning telling of major situations.

The Trinidad and Tobago meteorological service had to extend its, adverse weather alert #4.

The alert is now in effect until 4pm today.

On the morning show on i95.5fm minister Ameen said, at the local government level, protocols are in effect.

Ms. Ameen also said, the Defence Force has been called out to assist student getting to their exams.

She also said shelters have been opened.

According to the TTMS, while some temporary settling of weather conditions was expected during the night, there remains a medium chance of periodic heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms returning early this morning.

The public is being warned of the increased risk of street and flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

Landslides and landslips in regions where soil saturation has reached critical levels, due to ongoing rainfall are forecast.
