PM’s recent reaction to MP Rodney Charles is described as a man out of control

Deputy Political Leader of the Opposition, United National Congress, Jerlean John

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley’s reaction to a question from Opposition MP Rodney Charles in the Parliament is being seen as a man out of control.

Deputy Political Leader of the Opposition, United National Congress, Jerlean John last night said Dr. Rowley is clearly unfit to lead the country.

Last week Dr. Rowley slammed MP Charles for implying that he has been snubbing CARICOM neighbour Guyana.

In response he called on Mr. Charles to go live in Guyana.

Quoting from a newspaper article attributed to Denise Demming, Jerlean John refused to accept that there are things, which trigger outbursts from the Prime Minister.

Senator John agreed with the Vice President of Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago is collapsing because of its mismanagement of resources.

At the Monday night forum of the UNC, Ms. John said the Prime Minister has taken the country to a place not seen before.

Last Saturday Dr. Rowley said he would not engage in a tit for tat with Guyana.

El Salvador’s parliament approves SOE after 62 murders in a 24 hr period

El Salvador’s Parliament has approved a State Of Emergency after the Central American country recorded dozens of gang-related murders in a single day.

Police said there had been 62 murders on Saturday, making it the most violent 24-hour period since the end of the Civil War in 1992.

New laws restrict the right to gather, allow arrests without a warrant and the monitoring of communications.

Last year, the gang-plagued nation recorded 1,140 murders, a 30-year low.

However, that still equates to 18 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants.

In November, another spate of violence led to more than 40 people being killed within 3 days.

Prime Minister refuses to be drawn in by Guyana’s Vice-President

Guyana Vice President Jagdeo

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley refuses a tit for tat with Vice President of Guyana Bharat Jagdeo.

Last week, Mr. Jagdeo painted a not so good picture of Trinidad and Tobago’s economy.

Many here have condemned Mr. Jagdeo’s assessment.

At a news conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St. Anns last Saturday dr. Rowley said he wouldn’t respond.

He also accused Opposition MP Rodney Charles of trying to cause a rift between this country and Guyana.

In the parliament Mr. Charles last week wondered why Dr. Rowley has been snubbing Guyana.

It led to a tongue lashing from Dr. Rowley.

Last Saturday when asked about the verbal clash and the claim of MP Charles, Dr. Rowley said he treats every CARICOM leader with respect.

He recalled giving advise to Guyana’s former President David Granger during the contentious General Election there.

Meanwhile in Guyana, Vice President Jagdeo was not about to change his position on what is happening in Trinidad and Tobago.

At a news conference, Mr. Jagdeo said his assessment is based on facts and nothing else.

He wondered if Trinidad and Tobago has a problem with the truth.

He said Guyana has faced similar statements.

Vice President Jagdeo said Trinidad and Tobago’s current situation is present in other places and his government is vowing not to go down the same route, when it comes to managing resources.

House full of unsupervised children given sleeping pills by another child in Virginia

A house full of unsupervised children in Virginia were given sleeping pills by another child, causing them to be hospitalised.

WTVR-TV reports that Hopewell Police were called to a home on south 16th Street around 5:30 yesterday afternoon, where they found 4 children, ages 1 to 4, unresponsive.

Three more children found in another part of the home were awake but lethargic.

Their ages were not immediately known.

Investigators said the pill bottle found didn’t have a label on it.

However, after questioning the 7-year-old and consulting with doctors, they were able to determine the medication was sleeping pills.

Lt. Cheyenne Casale of the Hopewell Police Department said the kids were left alone for a short period of time and that one of the kids who had prescription medication got into it and shared with the other children here.

It was not immediately clear if the medication was prescribed to the 7-year-old child.

All 7 children were taken to a hospital and the 2 youngest were later transported to another hospital in serious condition.
