A police officer is shot and wounded in an attack in Chaguanas.

The officer’s identity has not been released.

Reports say the incident took place in Enterprise at around 6:15 last evening.

Newscenter 5 understands the policeman was among a group of officers of the Central Division Task Force, which was on patrol in the area.

It is reported men dressed in Islamic wear armed with assault rifles opened fire on the officers.

The men then fled the scene.

The lawmen took cover and returned fire.

Shortly after one of the officers reported he had been shot on his leg.

He was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he was treated for the gunshot wound.

He is said to be in a stable condition.

Investigations are continuing.

Confirmation from King Shepherd Ray Brathwaithe that work has begun on the Baptist Catherdal.

The land for the Edifice came as a gift from the government.

Mr. Brathwaithe said it is a welcomed development.

He said it was fitting, as Trinidad and Tobago is the birthplace of the religion.

An accident claims the life of Sarika Ramesar.

The mother of one died yesterday afternoon after an out of control truck crashed into her family’s SUV. 

According to reports the Debe mother of one, her husband Mitra Ramesar and their 10-year-old son Naveen, experienced car trouble and were awaiting assistance on the south-bound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway in Debe.

However at around 4:30pm a truck loaded with logs slammed into their vehicle.

Mrs. Ramesar died at the scene.

Her husband, son and truck driver remain warded at hospital.

Southern division police are investigating.

A 7-year-old boy, Asiah Josiah has drowned while in a swimming pool near his grandparents’ home in Tableland.

The incident occurred on Tuesday this week.

Asiah was playing at the back of the home.

His mother Anyanna Josiah went to check on him and found his body at the bottom of the pool.

Attempts to revive him failed.

The child was later pronounced dead at the Princes Town District Hospital.

Police are now investigating.

Some 19,198 pupils are expected to write the Secondary Entrance Assessment today.

Some 9,904 boys and 9,294 girls are registered to write today’s exam, which will last for 3 hours and 20 minutes.

The pupils will be tested on subjects including Mathematics, English Language Arts and English Language Arts Writing.

The exam will begin at 8.30 am at 552 exam centers across the country and concessions have been granted to approximately 440 pupils this year.

Via a statement Minister of Education Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly has asked pupils to put their best foot forward.

Minister Gadsby-Dolly said all arrangements have been put in place for the exam.

The National Parent Teacher Association is urging parents to make an extra effort to keep their kids calm.

In a release yesterday NPTA President Zena Ramatali said, besides parents being over-anxious and stressed, children must be kept calm.

Mrs. Ramatali urged parents to ensure their children know that they can succeed no matter what school they go to.

Another 4 patients have lost their lives to COVID-19

The Ministry of Health says the persons were 3 elderly men and 1 elderly woman.

It says 3 of the deceased had multiple comorbidities, while 1 had just one comorbidity.

This brings the total deaths to date to 3,738

The Ministry is also reporting 130 new infections.

The country’s total positive cases is now 7,256.

Schools throughout Trinidad and Tobago will begin functioning at 100% capacity come April 19^th.

The return to full time learning and teaching will bring to an end more than two years of online and rotational classes.

The announcement was made by Education Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby Dolly yesterday.

Acting Chief Education Officer Lisa Henry David said COVID-19 protocols will be in effect when schools reopen, and they will apply to students, teachers, parents and visitors.

She said all the materials and tools needed in the COVID fight have been distributed to schools.

The Ministry officials say timetables will return to what it was pre COVID-19.

Extra curricular activities will resume and school transport will operate at full capacity.

Minister in the Ministry of Education, Lisa Morris Julien said at the ECC level there would also be stringent measures.

Minister Gadsby Dolly said it is expected that all students will go out to school on April 19^th, but parents who prefer home schooling are free to use that option.

The Minister said there were consultations but she has not met in person with the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teacher Association.

Another teenager goes missing and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating her.

She is 16-year-old Jennifer Ramkissoon.

Jennifer, of Yallery Street west, California, was last seen on March 27^th at approximately 5:20pm.

She was reported missing later that same date.

Jennifer is said to be of East Indian descent, approximately 5 feet tall with a slim build and is brown in complexion.

She has long dark hair, with a cornrowed hairstyle, and also has braces.

Jennifer was last seen wearing a pink and black dress with a pair of black, Nike slippers.
