Today…the economy has reopened fully in T&T

Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago

Today marks the full reopening of the economy.

Most of the COVID-19 restrictions are to be removed.

According to Legal Notice #70, mask wearing is still mandatory in all public spaces with the exception for people engaging in sporting activities outdoors.

Last month Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said gatherings would no longer have a limit.

He also said COVID-19 Antigen tests will be accepted from vaccinated passengers arriving in the country.

This replaces the need for a negative PCR test.

Many of these measures have been in effect since March 2020.

Many, including the business sector, have welcomed Dr. Rowley’s announcement that more restrictions were to be lifted.

Over the last few months there has been a gradual return to full economic and social activities.

Opposition MP wants to know from Paria….why the silence?

Opposition MP Rudranath Indarsingh

Opposition MP Rudranath Indarsingh is calling on Paria Fuel Trading Company to say something about the findings of an autopsy on one of the divers who lost their lives in the February 25th incident.

Last week, attorney for the family of Kazim Ali Jr., Gerald Ramdeen said the autopsy has indicated that the diver was alive for up to 39 hours after being trapped in the pipeline at Paria.

Mr. Ramdeen claimed Paria officials did nothing to rescue the men in a timely manner.

Yesterday at a news conference, Mr. Indarsingh called the silence of the company deafening.

Energy Minister Stuart Young responded to Mr. Ramdeen’s claims saying a Commission Of Enquiry have been established and once he is properly retained he would be allowed to make submissions.

Mr. Indarsingh feels the government wants the story to die a natural death.

He is also suggesting that the lone survivor of the tragedy Gregory Boodram be given security.

Chairman of the Commission Of Enquiry Dennis Morrison is to be sworn in when he arrives in the country on the 18th of this month.

Search continues for 5 CARICOM nationals who vessel sank in Trinidad and Tobago waters

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard is searching for 5 fishermen who have been missing since their vessel sank in local waters.

The incident occurred last Saturday.

According to the coast guard, shortly before 4pm a distress call was made which said the St. Vincent and the Grenadines flagged vessel – the MV Fair Chance, had hit rough seas and sank after its cargo shifted.

Two men survived, Jonel Mc Intosh of Grenada and Derriol Small of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

A vessel from the Coast Guard picked them up, 5 miles north of Monos Island.

The vessel was carrying a shipment of steel products that was loaded in Port of Spain.

National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds said yesterday everything is being done to find the men.

The Minister said contact has been made with St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.

Reports out of St. Vincent and the Grenadines say the boat’s captain, Dexter Chance, is among the missing.

The others are Owen Prescott, Quincy Baptiste and Eric Calliste.

The identity of the 5th man has not been given.

The seamen are from Carriacou, Grenada and Union Island St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The MP for southern Grenadines Terrance Ollivierre says investigations suggest the shift of the goods on board caused the vessel to overturn.

Yesterday MP Olliverre said the island of Union is in mourning following the accident.

MP Olliverre also called the incident tragic.

The southern Grenadines MP said the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard is conducting enquiries into the incident.
