Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley

The Prime Minister says the country is facing what he refers to as an “economic avalanche”.

Speaking at a forum called “Spotlight On Budget” this morning, Dr. Keith Rowley noted that several sectors place demands on the State based on estimates and not on the actual figures.

He noted the public service is an example.

He said that may no longer be feasible.

The Prime Minister put the country on notice, the October 5th Budget cannot only treat with the issues and symptoms of this year, it must also prepare for the future.

A former head of Defense Force is disputing claims mad by CoP

Former head of the Defense Force, Major General Ralph Brown

A former head of the Defense Force Major General Ralph Brown is disputing claims made by the Commissioner that the officer seen in the video clip is not from the police service.

According to the Express newspaper the retired major general says the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force Military uniform is one, which is quite distinctive, and what was shown in the video recording is not military attire.

Major Brown was responding to questions from the Express about the procedure used by the military, when choosing soldiers to assist the police service, in exercises and the uniform of these soldiers.

According to Major Brown, when soldiers are on patrol on duty with police officers they must wear military uniforms.

He says they must wear the official parent TTDF issued kits and this consists of a beret, boots and army camouflage.

Trump’s comments send a signal to his supporters about how to react if Biden prevails

President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump and top aides are responding to the uproar over his failure to guarantee a peaceful transfer of power by intensifying their efforts to create Election chaos he can use to cling onto power should he lose in November.

In the wake of Mr. Trump’s stunning warning on Wednesday that “we’re going to have to see what happens,” questions are also growing about the willingness of Republican lawmakers to stand up to Trump if he refuses to accept the will of voters.

And raising new concerns that the administration is leveraging executive power to bolster the President’s political goals, the Justice Department said it was probing “potential issues with mail-in ballots” in Pennsylvania following the discovery of 9 discarded ballots.

As the implications of Trump’s statement about the transition of power begin to sink in, Trump, as he so often does, barged ahead, seeking to drive home his case that the vote may be rigged.

FIFA suspends TTFA with immediate effect

With immediate effect the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association has been suspended as a member of the world governing body FIFA.

The suspension is until further notice.

This development means Trinidad and Tobago cannot participate in any FIFA tournaments and program anywhere in the world.

The suspension follows a decision by the former TTFA executive to challenge in court, FIFA’s right to appoint a normalisation committee to manage the affairs of football in this country.

FIFA had called on the TTFA to withdraw the matter from the High Court and a deadline was given.

Although a decision was taken to do withdraw late Tuesday night, it did not adhere to the demand by FIFA in time.

Yesterday a letter was sent signed by FIFA’s General Secretary Fatma Samoura.

The FIFA media release reads in part that the bureau of the FIFA council has suspended the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association with immediate effect due to grave violations of the organisation’s statutes.

The release explains that the suspension was prompted by the former leader of the TTFA lodging a claim before a local court contesting the decision of the FIFA council to appoint a normalisation committee for the TTFA.

According to the release, this course of action was in direct breach of Article 59 of the FIFA Statutes, which expressly prohibits recourse to ordinary courts unless specifically provided for in the FIFA regulations.
