Prime Minister refuses to be drawn in by Guyana’s Vice-President

Guyana Vice President Jagdeo

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley refuses a tit for tat with Vice President of Guyana Bharat Jagdeo.

Last week, Mr. Jagdeo painted a not so good picture of Trinidad and Tobago’s economy.

Many here have condemned Mr. Jagdeo’s assessment.

At a news conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St. Anns last Saturday dr. Rowley said he wouldn’t respond.

He also accused Opposition MP Rodney Charles of trying to cause a rift between this country and Guyana.

In the parliament Mr. Charles last week wondered why Dr. Rowley has been snubbing Guyana.

It led to a tongue lashing from Dr. Rowley.

Last Saturday when asked about the verbal clash and the claim of MP Charles, Dr. Rowley said he treats every CARICOM leader with respect.

He recalled giving advise to Guyana’s former President David Granger during the contentious General Election there.

Meanwhile in Guyana, Vice President Jagdeo was not about to change his position on what is happening in Trinidad and Tobago.

At a news conference, Mr. Jagdeo said his assessment is based on facts and nothing else.

He wondered if Trinidad and Tobago has a problem with the truth.

He said Guyana has faced similar statements.

Vice President Jagdeo said Trinidad and Tobago’s current situation is present in other places and his government is vowing not to go down the same route, when it comes to managing resources.
