West Indies Women and Men teams are “Champions” after their victories in the T20

westindieswomenThe West Indies women and men teams are the holders of the world T20 title. This is the first win at this title for the women who won with eight-wickets and 3 balls to spare over Australia and in Kolkata, India yesterday.

Australia, seeking a fourth successive world T20 title, chose to bat and posted 148-5, with Elyse Villani making the first half century in a final. But 18-year-old windies opener Hayley Matthews hit a stunning 66 off 45 balls with three sixes, in a stand of 120.

Some hours later Carlos Brathwaite calmly belted four astonishing sixes off the first four deliveries of the final over to catapult West Indies to extraordinary four-wicket victory over England.

In an interview which followed the win, captain for the men’s team Darren Sammy had some strong words for those who said it couldn’t be done. Speaking at a special convention hosted by the People’s National Movement in Port of Spain yesterday Dr. Rowley congratulated the women on their win.

Later the Prime Minister issued a release saying both teams despite their chalenges brought back honor to the Caribbean and Sports Minister Darryl Smith says although the regional team was not favourites to beat the consistent England they managed to snatch victory in he final over.

PM labels the crime in this country a national crisis

stabbingThe crime situation in the country is labeled a national crisis by the Prime Minister. Dr. Rowley says the murder rate for the year so far is cause for concern. He urges citizens to stop playing the blame game and do their part in reducing criminal activity.

Dr. Rowley says also of major concern is the low detection rate in Trinidad and Tobago. He says government is working to pass legislation which will improve the detection level. The Prime Minister says this law will go through regardless of non-support from the opposition.

Speaking at a special convention hosted by the People’s National Movement in Port of Spain yesterday Dr. Rowley said he is hopeful the country will survive current challenges in a dim reality.
