A 60-year-old man is arrested after he allegedly shot and wounded his neighbour.

The police service via a statement says the suspect from south Oropouche shot the 29-year-old at around 3:40am on Saturday.

Reports say the victim was walking along the roadway close to his home at Aripero Village, when the suspect allegedly ran out of his home and shot the victim in the abdomen.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

The suspect was subsequently detained and remains in police custody.

Charges are expected to be laid and he is to appear in court today.
