It is going to take a little longer for the country to get a confirmed Commissioner of Police.

The Police Service Commission extends the period for the recruitment and selection of a Commissioner.

In July the Commission said the process would have been completed by the end of the year.

In a statement yesterday, the Commission said it needs more time.

It said it commenced the process of vetting all candidates as required under law and governing process for the establishment of an Order of Merit list for the post.

However, it said additional time has become necessary to ensure for a proper and in-depth security vetting of candidates.

The Commission said this would require an additional month to complete that process.

As such it has extended the date for the completion of the selection process for a Police Commissioner to January 31^st 2023.
