Minister in the office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young says while the opposition criticises government’s move to pass the legislation, it is indeed necessary to fight crime.
Minister Young says gang-related violence accounts for a large number of the criminal activity plaguing the country.
In making his point, Mr. Young made reference to statistics produced by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
Mr. Young is also refuting claims by the Opposition Leader that crime decreased under her leadership.
Mr. Young said gang-related murders blossomed while the partnership was in office.
The two were contributing to the debate on the Anti-Gang Legislation, 2017 in the parliament yesterday.
