St. Lucia has recorded 9 new cases of the coronavirus including a 12-year-old child.

The Ministry of Health says the new cases push the total of positive persons to 63.

Thirty-six are active cases.

The Ministry says 5 of the cases are female and 4 males with ages ranging from 12 to 55 year-old.

The cases are from the northern town of Gros-Islet, the capital, Castries and the Southern City of Vieux Fort.

According to the Ministry, all of the cases were placed in quarantine after testing and while awaiting results.

It explains a link has been established for 5 of these cases to individuals who had been diagnosed with the virus.
