Police continuing investigations into the death of 10-year-old Stevie Hansraj

slaughterhousePolice are continuing their investigations into the death of 10-year-old Stevie Hansraj. Stevie was found crushed under the weight of a steel gate in an abandoned slaughterhouse near his Sirju Sadhu Salt Mine Trace, Siparia, on Sunday evening.

His grandmother, Pamela Hansraj, reportedly said she and others are suspicious about the incident and wondered why he went to that building in the first place. Police reports say the boy was found on Sunday night by his 14 year-old brother, Steffon, and one of his cousins who is a police officer.

They found him trapped under an iron and steel gate measuring six feet by five feet. He was pronounced dead by DMO Dr. Parasram who visited the scene. An autopsy performed by Dr. Hughvon de Vignes at the Forensic Sciences Centre, St James, yesterday, gave the cause of death as compression asphyxia.

Stevie was a student of the Siparia KPA School. The boy’s father Steve told reporters the last time he spoke to stevie was after lunch on Sunday when he and his dog, brownie, left to visit a friend at the nearby Mulchan Trace. He said when he did not return some 4 hours later, he went to the home of his son’s friend only to learn Stevie never arrived there. A search was mounted and Stevie was later found dead.
