The Prime Minister describes as an insult, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar’s comparison of the country’s closed borders, with that of slavery.

Last night Dr. Keith Rowley said it appears that Mrs. Persad Bissessar is not aware of what slavery means to people of African descent.

Last week Mrs. Persad-Bissessar claimed the government was locking out nationals and likened the situation proportions worse than that of the oppressive systems of slavery and indentureship.

Dr. Rowley said it was not the first time Mrs. Persad Bissessar has made such hurtful comments.

The Prime Minister has said that citizens stuck in foreign countries would be allowed to come home, but on a phased basis as the country continues to grapple with COVID-19.
