Police hold 5 with high-grade marijuana in Moruga
Police have held five people following the seizure of 1.4 million dollars worth of high-grade marijuana in Moruga. The find was made on Carnival Monday and Tuesday by officers of the Southern Division Task Force.
At around 1:30am on Tuesday officers of the division say they were driving through St. Mary’s Village where they stopped and searched a vehicle. The officers say they found 9.3 kilogrammes of marijuana valued at $558,000.
A 27-year-old man of Dow Village, California, a 37-year-old rigger of Couva and a 27-year-old rigger of Dow Village, California, were arrested and charged for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
On Carnival Monday night officers of the division were patrolling La Lune Road when they spotted a vehicle parked on the roadside. As they approached, the car sped off. With assistance from the Task Force, the car was chased and it eventually veered off the road. Officers say they searched the car and found 14.2 kilogrammes of marijuana valued at $852,000.
The 24-year-old of California, who is the son of an incarcerated gang leader, and his accomplice were arrested and charged. Police believe there is a connection. They believe the suspects had just collected a shipment of drugs along the Moruga coastline and may have split up to carry out the process of collection. Senor Supt Irwin Hackshaw commended the officers involved for their bravery and persistence in carrying out the division’s crime plan.

Road Results, Carnival 2016
He has done it again. Machel Montano reigns as king of the road. His 2016 song ‘Waiting On The Stage’ has copped the Road March title…making it three in a row for the soca star. TUCO yesterday said “Waiting On The Stage” was played 328 times during the two days of carnival, which ended on Tuesday.
His closes rival on the road was Kess The Band’s ‘People’ which was played 29 times. His consecutive wins began in 2014 with his tune “Ministry of Road” and with “Like A Boss” in 2015. This is Machel’s 8th Road March victory.
For kiddies’ carnival, veteran mas designer Rosalind Gabriel has copped the Band of the Year title with her ‘Another Day In Paradise’. Ms. Gabriel told reporters yesterday she is happy with her victory. The bandleader is celebrating her 18th win in the category.
She said she never takes winning for granted and does her best while hoping for the best. She said her presentation, titled ‘Another Day In Paradise’, was part of her focus on the beauty of the country.
