COP holds firm to the call for Mayor Tim Kee to step down

COPOne political party holds firm to the call for the mayor to step down. The Congress of the People welcomes the mayor’s decision to demit office in light of widespread criticisms following statements on the murder of Ms. Nagakiya.

Acting COP Political Leader, Dr. Anirudh Mahabir, believes it is a welcome development in the country’s governance and is in keeping with the highest standards of conduct of all officeholders. He says good governance and respect by elected representatives of the opinions of those they represent are what the COP has been demanding for the past five years.

Mr. Mahabir says in light of this development, it is necessary also that every effort be made by the police service to ensure that the person or persons responsible for the murder of Asami Nagakiya are brought swiftly to justice. He said successful detection of this matter will help repair the damage also made to the country’s global image and its relations with Japan.
