Trini woman living in the US has been murdered by her husband

benjamin_luckA Trinidadian woman living in the U.S. is shot and killed by her husband. Benjamin Luck who reportedly studied at the University of the Southern Caribbean in Maracas, St. Joseph, has been charged with her murder.

 

The woman, Daria Pauline Best-Luck, was shot multiple times at the couple’s home in Cumberland Furnace in Clarksville, Tennessee. Police say 33-year-old Mr. Luck called 911 and said he had killed his wife.

 

According to an arrest warrant, Mr. Luck said he was having a domestic dispute with his wife and she told him she would kill him. He got a gun and she got a knife, he told investigators.

 

Fearing for his life Mr. Luck said he shot his wife multiple times. The couple’s three children were in the house at the time of the incident.

SSA Bill passed

Two independent senators have voted with the government on the contentious Strategic Services Agency Amendment Bill.

The government only needed one vote from the independent bench.

After hours of debate and a committee stage perusal, just before midnight the bill was passed.

The SSA Bill has sparked wide debate in and outside the parliament. Government was advised to withdraw the bill and some suggested it be sent to a joint select committee of the parliament.

Before last night’s vote the Attorney General organised meetings with the independent and the opposition benches, with the intention of passing on information about the bill.

Autopsy to determine how baby Jacob Bastaldo died

chaguanashealthfacilityAn autopsy is ordered to determine how baby Jacob Bastaldo died. The 2-year-old boy was declared dead on Friday at the Chaguanas District Health Facility.

 

His 18-year-old mother told police she was at the Caroni Village, Caroni home of her boyfriend when she noticed the child acting strangely. She said he was not his jovial self and appeared sluggish.

 

The child later complained of feeling unwell and was taken to the health facility. Doctors say there appeared to be marks of violence on the child’s back and stomach.

 

Police were notified . Both the mother and her boyfriend have given statements to the police. The autopsy is expected to take place today. The child and his mother are from Jack Terrace, Lendore Village, Chaguanas.
