Police Commissioner responds to complaints made by officers attached to the PM’s security detail

The Office of the Police Commissioner responds to complaints by officers attached to the Prime Minister’s security detail. Yesterday the representing Police Social and Welfare Association noted that several officers are unhappy and are requesting transfers because of the workload.

 

On hearing of the situation last evening, Head of Corporate Communications for the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Ellen Lewis responded saying, the matter will be investigated. Yesterday President of the association Anand Ramesar explained officers are working excessive hours for low pay. Inspector Ramesar is said to meet with Commissioner Stephen Williams but believes the situation calls for attention. Inspector Ramesar was speaking with Newscentre 5 yesterday.

12 year old who attempted to poison his grandmother to return to court today

The 12-year-old boy charged in connection with the reported attempt to poison his grandmother is to return to court this morning. Yesterday he was taken before a Justice Of the Peace because of a reported absence of magistrates at the Rio Claro courts.

 

The JP then adjourned the matter to today. The child’s mother and another relative were in the court. He was released into the care of his mother until he goes before a magistrate today.

 

It is reported the form one secondary school student laced a meal of macaroni cheese and egg, which he gave to his 58-year-old grandmother last weekend. The woman was treated at a health facility and discharged. The charge against the boy is administering a toxic substance to endanger life. The grandmother was not in the court yesterday.

Fire officers still trying to determine cause of fire at Carib Brewery

A fire at Carib Brewery in Champ Fleurs. Fire officers are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, which was reported yesterday morning at around 9:30am.

 

However it is believed a brand new furnace may have been the origin of the fire. The multi million dollar furnace was to be officially unveiled this week.

 

Officers from the San Juan Fire Station were the first to respond, but they received help from headquarters and Chaguaramas. The officers were able to stop the spread of the blaze to other parts of the compound.

Police investigate 3 murders over the weekend

There have been three murders over the weekend, which are now being investigated by the police. The latest victim is identified as kernel john. Mr. John was shot during the early hours of this morning at Kitchener Street, Marabella.

 

It is reported that at around 12:20 this morning Mr. John was at a birthday lime when he was shot. Residents say they heard the gunshots and when they checked they found Mr. John’s body. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 

On Saturday Keron Brown and Gerel Solomon were killed in separate situations. 21-year-old Mr. Brown was shot several times in Claxton Bay. Relatives say he left his Orchid Gardens, Pleasantville home to collect money from someone.

 

Police reports say at around 10 pm on Ocean Drive, Mr. Brown and a friend got out of a vehicle to urinate when they heard gunshots. It is said the shots came from another vehicle. Mr. Brown’s unnamed friend said he hid in the bushes as the driver of the car sped off. He later found Mr. Brown shot several times. The welder died on the scene.

 

Police recovered 21 spent shells and one live round of 9 ammunition, his mother Sherry Ann Brown wants justice for her son’s killing. She told reporters he was to start a job at Point Lisas today. She said he was very excited.

 

Mr. Brown’s friend is assisting police with their investigations and WP Serioux of Homicide Region 3 is investigating. And 23-year-old Mr. Solomon from Maraval was shot dead near his home on Beharrylal Trace, La Seiva on Saturday morning. He was said to be returning home with a friend at around 8 am after liming on Ariapita Avenue when he was shot.

 

It is said he was standing next to a Veterinary clinic on La Sieva Road when the driver of a white Nissan station wagon pulled alongside them and the car’s occupants drew guns and shot at them. Mr. Solomon was shot several times while his friend escaped unhurt.

 

The driver of the car then sped off. Mr. Solomon was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer and his body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St. James, where an autopsy will be performed today. Police said yesterday that an arrest is imminent.
