Only nationals will be allowed to apply for the job of Police Commissioner. Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie yesterday said the rules have changed for the appointment of a Commissioner of Police.
He said Cabinet has approved the recommendations regarding the appointment of a new Police Commissioner. A Trinidad and Tobago national living abroad could also apply. The Minister said the process of appointing a new Commissioner will also now be handled by a local firm.
According to the Minister no firm has as yet been selected and he won’t put a timeframe on moving forward. Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams has been holding the position since 2012.
