Jamaican police are following strong leads in the murder of two American missionaries in St. Mary

missionairiesThe Police High Command in Jamaica says it is following strong leads in the murder of two American missionaries in St. Mary. Those killed are, Randy Hentzel of Iowa in the United States, and Tower Isle, St. Mary, and 53-year-old, Harold Nichols.

The killing of the men has been reported in the international media including several US news websites and the BBC. DSP Dwight Powell of the St. Mary police says top-level investigators have been brought in to assist with the investigations.

DSP Powell told a news conference yesterday that investigators revisited the murder scenes. DSP Powell also urges those guilty to turn themselves in. He is also dismissing reports that the bodies of the men were mutilated. The police have said they are awaiting the results of autopsies, to determine the cause of death of the 2 missionaries.

Mr. Hentzel’s body was found on Saturday, on the Wentworth property in Port Maria. Following an extensive search yesterday, Nichols’ body was found about a quarter mile away, from where Mr. Hentzel’s body was found. The two had been doing humanitarian work in the parish, for the past 14 years.

Both missionaries lived and worked in Jamaica, for a Pennsylvania-based religious organization, called Teams for Medical Missions. At the time of their deaths, the men were reportedly in the process of checking on the completion of the foundation for a home, for a poor St. Mary family, ahead of the visit by other missionaries, to finish the structure.
