Meanwhile government says it cannot compensate for PC Benjamin’s death, as the one million dollar payment to the relatives of fallen officers was never policy. The National Security Minister has been asked to look at the proposal to compensate the families of law enforcement officers who die in the line of duty.
Yesterday Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie said the compensation was only a promise made by the former government and not policy. Minister in the office of the Prime Minister and the office of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs Stuart Young further explained that absolutely nothing was done to establish a framework for the implementation of this proposal.
Both ministers expressed condolences to the family of the late PC Anson Benjamin, saying it was a tragic incident and his heart went out to the family. The National Security Minister is said to be looking at the issue.
