A shooting at Beetham Gardens has left two police officers wounded.

The incident occurred last evening during an anti crime exercise at Hell Yard Beetham Gardens.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service says Constable Adrian Moreno of the Western Division CID and Woman Police Constable Rachel George of the Western Division Task Force are wounded.

They were part of the exercise at around 7:30 last evening and were in search of suspects related to a recent break-in at American Stores, Western Main Road, St. James.

One hundred thousand dollars worth of goods was reportedly stolen from the store.

According to the Police Public Affairs Unit, the officers were fired upon and PC Moreno suffered a graze to the left side of his head and a wound to his right arm.

WPC George sustained a bullet wound to her left foot.

Both officers were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where they were treated and subsequently warded.
