Police have arrested two people after they are alleged to have tried taking marijuana, a cell-phone and other contraband into the holding cell of the Rio Claro police station.

The two, a 51 year old woman and a 26 year old man were arrested and charged with the offences yesterday.

Police say the woman had a bag of prasad in her possession. They say a quantity of marijuana was found hidden in the delicacy.

The woman was reportedly taking the food item to a relative of hers who was detained at the Rio Claro police station.

It is said when officers conducted a search of the bag, they discovered 15 grammes of marijuana hidden in the prasad, a cell-phone wrapped in a piece of carbon paper, in a container of curried mango, along with cigarettes.

It is reported, wrapping paper used to smoke marijuana was also found in another bag containing sweets.

The woman was arrested and the man were arrested. They are expected to appear before a Rio Claro magistrate today
