Chief Secretary: Tobago economy must be diversified

Chief Secretary, Orville London

Chief Secretary, Orville London

Chief Secretary Orville London says the issue of food security in Tobago must be addressed.

He says the most recent data from the Central Bank shows a decline in headline inflation in Tobago.

Mr London says, according to the data headline inflation in Tobago is lower than the national rate, largely driven by a significant fall in the rate of food price inflation on the island.

However, Mr London says this is not good enough. He also says the unemployment rate on the island is at an all time low but more sustainable jobs must be created.

He says while there has been a reduction in the unemployment and inflation rates diversification of the island’s economy remains a challenge

Mr London was speaking at an Economic and Business forum hosted by the Division of Finance and Enterprise Development.
