Two men are expected to appear before a Scarborough Magistrate charged with the murders of Richard and Grace Wheeler.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Vincel Edwards, the 29 year old Tobago man and 23 year old national of St. Vincent and the Grenadines were charged yesterday.
The two men are construction workers.
Along with a female, they were held last week; days after the couple was found hacked to death at their Carnbee home.
ACP Edwards said the woman has been released.
Mr. Wheeler was a British national who was married to a Trinidad and Tobago national. The couple has lived in Tobago for 16 years.
Their murder triggered an updated travel advisory from the United Kingdom government. However chief secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly Orville London yesterday said he does not expect a major blow to the island’s tourism.
In Curacao last week, the impact of the murder and other crimes against visitors to the region was raised at a news conference. The head of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation Richard Sealey called the double murder unfortunate but insisted the region is a safe place to visit.
Tobagonians got the assurance from the Prime Minister yesterday that every step will be taken to protect Tobago’s security.
