The time has come for Tobago’s designers to transition from fashion runways to the international world.
Secretary of Community Development and Culture Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt-Angus believes the island’s designers are ready for the next level. Mrs. Tsoiafatt-Angus accompanied four designers to the Fashion World Tokyo fashion trade show, which ended on the weekend.
“We felt that this was a giant leap, but this certainly is the next step for our taking fashion from a feel-good activity, into commercialising it,” the Secretary said.
Her Division has invested in the designers by providing opportunities to showcase their talents on the international stage.
Among the 700-plus exhibitors at the three-day trade show were Tobago designers Camille Khan, Ted Arthur, Alana Roberts and Kirsten Benjamin, who displayed their jewellery, handbags, shoes and clothing, while also networking for potential entry into international markets.
They participated in the event through collaboration between the Division of Community Development and Culture and Vice Versa Fashion
