The Chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission is challenging, the Tobago House of Assembly to lead the way in providing spaces, for persons with disabilities.
Mr. Ian Roach makes this suggestion as the EOC moves to increase, its presence on the island.
In a release from the THA Communication Unit, Mr. Roach explains that, with tourism as the largest income generator for the island, public offices and spaces, tourist sites and facilities as well as accommodations should be more inclusive, offering disabled persons a more enriching experience.
The release also says at present; approximately 5-10% of complaints received by, the EOC are made by Tobago residents.
It says, Dr. B.Yisrael offered some welcome assistance to the EOC by providing a space, at the division’s head office for its operations.
In addition, the release says, as part of the public health approval process for town and country planning, the secretary indicated that she would engage the respective officers to encourage persons, who have pending approvals for facilities and structures to be more inclusive, in their designs.
It states, Dr. B.Yisrael committed to quarterly meetings with the EOC, to plan and execute projects accordingly.
The board of directors of the Equal Opportunities Commission paid a courtesy call, on Dr. Faith B.Yisrael, last Friday.
