The way is now cleared for the Tobago House of Assembly Elections.
The assembly was dissolved yesterday following its 42nd sitting of the 2017 – 2021 term.
Members debated an act to regulate the use of marine parks around the island.
But following the debate, Chief Secretary Ancil Dennis rose to make the highly anticipated announcement after which, presiding officer Oswald Williams put the matter to the vote.
The elections are usually held in January.
Both the ruling Peoples National Movement and the minority Progressive Democratic Patriots have already announced their full slates of 12 candidates.
The Tobago Organization of the People and the Platform of Truth are yet to say if they will take part in the polls.
