South Oropouche is the scene of a murder

A murder in south Oropouche is being linked to a property dispute.

But the fatality may not have been the target.

Thirty-seven-year-old Premnath Maraj was cutting the grass at the home of Taramatie Ramsingh when he was killed by a man.

Reports say Mr. Maraj’s head was almost severed during the incident at St. John’s Branch Race on Monday.

The man wielding a cutlass also chopped Ms. Ramsingh across her hands and upper body.

One of her fingers were severed but doctors were able to reattach it at the San Fernando General Hospital.

Police say it appears Mr. Maraj was caught in the middle of an ongoing dispute between Ms. Ramsingh and the suspect.

They say Mr. Maraj was ambushed and was chopped on the neck and head.

He died at the scene.

It is reported Ms. Ramsingh’s 6-year-old daughter witnessed the attack.

The suspect was up to yesterday at large.

Earlier this week, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mcdonald Jacob lamented the number of deadly dispute caused by property issues.

He described them as non-intimate incidents.

The DCP said it might become necessary for the police service to seek help from other agencies.
