Recent statistics on crimes against children are being challenged by the Single Fathers Association. On Wednesday the Child Protection Unit of the police service released startling figures on child sex abuse and other crimes committed against children.
Sgt. Valerie Hospedales said there have been more than 13 hundred reports of crimes against children in 2015. She said a third of that figure relates to sexual abuse. The unit said so far none of the perpetrators has been brought to justice
President of the Single Fathers Association Rondell Feeles yesterday said in many instances his members are falsely blamed for such offences. As such he said proper investigations with appropriate findings should also be released by the unit.
He said when the unit was established he raised concerns that it may be used as a tool to keep fathers away from their children as has been done before. Mr. Feeles said judging by the latest report nothing has changed. Mr. Feeles said better must be done by the Child Protection Unit.
