A $700,000 donation of charity from RBC Royal Bank to the Red Cross Society of Trinidad and Tobago
RBC says the money is to help support vulnerable families and individuals gain access to food during the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.
According to the bank, the donation is expected to assist over 1,000 people across the country by providing food vouchers and gift cards to be redeemed at Massy Stores, JTA Supermarkets, Maharaj Westside Supermarket, Jumbo Foods, West Bees, and Penny Savers in Tobago.
Further, RBC says this donation is part of a larger USD $330,000 initiative previously announced to help support food security across the Caribbean.
In addition to Red Cross Societies across the region, donations are also being made to Hands for Hunger in the Bahamas, and Cayman Feed Our Future and the Cayman Food Bank in the Cayman Islands.
It says this initiative is on top of RBC’s global commitment of more than CAD $2 million to fight COVID-19 through various partners such as the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, feeding America, and food banks Canada.
