Police in Guyana are still searching for two gunmen following a shootout in south Ruimveldt. Two others believed to be accomplices of the missing gunmen were killed by police during an exchange of fire early yesterday morning.
Loud explosions were heard by residents in the community at around 4:30 am. The standoff between the gunmen and the police went on for about an hour. One of the residents Paul Morrison said one of the bandits was in his yard and subsequently pointed a gun at him when the police arrived. The men were confronted by the police. Residents told reporters it was a tense and frightening situation. Police Commander Clifton Aiken told reporters police were under attack.
