The Prime Minister’s decision to keep Marlene Mc Donald in his cabinet is being seen as disrespectful and contemptuous. Lobby group Fixin’ T&T’s Kirk Waithe says it is a very unfortunate position taken by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
Dr. Rowley earlier this week said there is no reason to remove Ms. Mac Donald from the cabinet. Fixin T&T has called for the Housing Minister to be fired, in the midst of claims that she abused her office in 2007 after she enquired about a housing application on behalf of her partner Michael Carew.
The minister on monday admitted to making the inquiry when she was Minister of Community Development, but she insisted she did no wrong. Dr. Rowley is backing his minister. Mr. Waithe yesterday said the Prime Minister is showing, by his position that he is ignoring the allegations, investigations and anything to do with the matter.
He said considering the 5 year period before, the country deserves better and must insist on better. Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar told reporters yesterday the matter may be raised in the parliament.
Opposition Senator Wayne Sturge has been pushing for action to be taken against the Housing Minister, saying he has documents to show she committed wrong. He has vowed to send the documents and the evidence to the Integrity Commission.
